2nd Chic Night

The chef changed the menu last night and substituted Chateau Briand for the Filet. I was not disappointed but the portion was 3 thick cuts which was too much for me and I only ate 2.

For starters we had the tomato brioche. The tomatoes on this cruise have been incredible.

For our main course I had the beef and Iain had the lobster.   He had to specifically tell Kumar to only serve one.

For desert I had the Lemon Mascarpone Cream with grapefruit orange and casice gelee    Was absolutely delicious

The other day we were talking about the self service bar in The Retreat.   Here’s a picture.

Sri, the bar waiter is very attentive and he keeps his eye on everyone’s glasses and makes sure they don’t go dry.

Thanks , that looks great! Easy to grab a glass of wine and head up to dinner, though the glasses don't look like Riedel (probably because some go up to the pool deck).😉

I'm glad they are keeping the Tea Forte as well (Cafe al Bacio brand). Really enjoyed going up there for the good stuff.

Just my thought. We were there early September, but choose to go to Puerto de la Cruz, where we had spent a number of holidays in the early 80’s.

Last time we were in Santa Cruz it was a building site, as they were re laying tram lines, so I suppose it put me off staying in the port, so thank you for the photos.

The attached photo of the Opera house, was taken as we left the port on 7Sept ‘19.

It was built to mimic the Sydney Opera house.

Thanks.   Saw that but didn’t know what it was.

Magic carpet open.  It is really nice sitting there.  At least today there is very little wind. C9759F66-9E20-4690-9AB6-4C0356A63A51.thumb.jpeg.b4ef92fa1a71c9929e5fbd8d84ca5425.jpeg

One real white elephant 🐘 is the Cabanas.  I have only seen one rented in the past 3 weeks.   They really lack any privacy and better seating for free in front of them.

they did install privacy screens between cabanas.

Hope all fixed soon..That looks like the smoking area???? Great views.

Reallly appreciate the Luminae food  pics and reviews,  We  have a suite booked  on  Summit ( 1st ever) ,  and this  is helping us understand the choices,.  Some of it looks like it may be a bit fussy for us,   We are true  BLU fans but something diff is always nice once in awhile.

The intro  pricing on  Connie from Tampa  was a great opportunity for us to try a suite. If we like it, we may cruise a bit  less and enjoy all the extra benefits that are included in the pricing. Tampa is a great port for us..easy drive from  our winter place.

Enjoy your crossing.  We  received  a notice saying our boarding on the 15th will be 12:30 to 2:30, ( customs and immig and Coast Guard inspection).  Everyone to be checked in by 2:30 to sail at 3:30.  Not quite sure that is a realistic time line but we'll be prepared to wait.

Love the Magic Carpet..day or night, when conditions are right.,.

Agree about the rental cabanas..hope the partitions improve the wind tunnel effect, not much else can be done for privacy...poor design!

Contractors are busy at work repairing the storm damage.  ACF270C3-E5A2-49AD-A6F4-433CDE195244.thumb.jpeg.923e0ff401da1c02b6f48b51a05a4128.jpeg

This sort of wind-induced ceiling damage in the "Deck 14.5" smoking area seems to be Edge's Achille's Heal...  While we did not encounter anything close to the very severe weather that you have during this crossing, the same thing happened to a lesser degree in the same area at least once--perhaps twice--during Edge's eastbound Transatlantic to Southampton in April/May...  And in fact, some of those ceiling slats were clattering/compromised a bit/received minor reinforcement during relatively ideal conditions while I was aboard in the Caribbean during March...

Hopefully, Celebrity has made redesign of the area a priority--it's high maintenance and potentially dangerous to guests and crew--in terms of the Apex launch and future E-Class builds...

Though our ports have differed, I've enjoyed reliving shipboard life--many of the same  observations, many of the same officers, many of the same experiences [even the impeccably done loyalty lunch in Blu] through your eyes...  Thanks!

I think the glasses were Riedel but a lower grade and different shape.

While we enjoyed the Magic Carpet we found the chairs low, deep chairs to be uncomfortable and not the easiest to get up from. The few regular style chairs were always occupied so we'd sit on a stool at the tall tables.

You should be ok in Luminae.   The food really isn't as fussy as it looks at time.   The good thing for you on Summit is you will also be able to select off the main dining room menus if nothing excites you.

It is really common for boarding to be delayed after arrival of a ship from Europe.   They have to zero out the ship an even the

crew must be processed by CBP    The other delay is caused due to Sanitary Inspection of the ship.   The new facial recognition system really speeds the embarkation but if you arrive early I would suspect there will be waiting.

Looks like they may be introducing a design change.    They are installing new support brackets that look much more substantial to those that were torn loose.  I was really surprised that they had material aboard to make the repairs.    I also noticed that the glass panels that had been broken were replace.

She is going to look pristine when she begins her Caribbean winter.

This actually doesn't even show the whole balcony. They now have loungers, if you wish. This is 11268, a popular S1 among Cruise Critic folk. 🙂

Looks really nice.  I put it on my notes.

Not an expert on the glass but they are indeed Riedel.  Just took a look at one left over from last night.

I think the low hard to get out of some of the new chairs and sofa’s are a common complaint all over the ship.

I sat in a really beautiful chair outside Blu and thought I was going to do a backward summersault.

Makes sense. I know they serve wine in Riedel glasses in the Retreat Lounge, but the  “self serve” glasses looked a little sturdier than Riedel usually look. 🙂

Lunch at Luminae.

I had the lobster 🦞 roll (hold the lettuce please).   Iain had the pea soup and had the shrimp 🍤 Ceviche.

We both had the Pear Clafoutis.  Our favorite.   It was gone before I remembered to soot a pic.

While out walking today I came across a couple rooms that I have not read about before -

They are S3 SkySuites that are attached to inside cabins -   There is a separate door to the two cabins with a small foyer.

SkySuite.jpg.0de0e25797ec97e5a6d745ba059ccecc.jpg

There is also a YouTube video I found that show them in greater detail.

This may be a little late, but I was wondering which nights were the formal nights on your first cruise (Rome, Sicily, Malta, Greece). How dressed up were people?

On the first cruise we only had 2 sea days and the Chic nights were on these two sea days.

In Suite Class I would say that 40-50% of men wore Sports Jackets and above  (only about 10% in Tux).   The dress varied -  Women always look fantastic and glamorous.    Saw everything from jeans and t-shirt up.   Throught the ship most men seem to have a dress shirt and sports jacket with or without ties.

Thanks.. We will be "packing our patience" ..esp with a great ship and itin ahead of us for 10 days. .

Glad they are reinforcing that area where dh smokes..not bringing our hard hats  along.!

I will always find something good to eat....love salads, non salty soups and small protein portions...usually skip carbs and get dbl veggies. Follow a diabetic meal plan as best I can on  a cruise but also allow for some treats!
