We are departing Santiago Chile on November 11th  on the Ms Roald Amundsen but have an overnight in Santiago on the 10th.  Has anyone heard if the ship will relocate the departure city or cancel the cruise?  Thanks for any input on this situation.

This has been posted by Hurtigruten on a social media group they administer :

" The safety of our guests is always the most important. We are closely monitoring the situation, and will take necessary precautions to make sure your safety is taken care of. At his point there are no restrictions on tourist travel, and none of the US, UK, GER or NOR governments have issued any advice against traveling to Chile. This also means that as of now and based on the current situation, the unrest will not have any implications for your upcoming voyage. "
Hope that brings peace of mind.

However I don't think it's right that people have to go through social media to have information about their trip, you should have an answer from Hurtigruten (maybe you do by now).

This is standard pr speak used by every travel company in the world and does not  mean a thing.  This doesn't mean Hurtigruten is not concerned, but their reasons , as in all companies in the bussiness of making money, primarily are about profit. So that comes first and yes safety is in there somewhere, but only if it is absolutely neccesary or mandated by law.

You can see it in the notice where they say that " there are no restrictions in tourist travel" . Basically this translates to " we will only consider changing embarkation when told by government, not before".  I would be very , pleasantly, surprised when companies (not just Hurtigruten) take responsibility and act before being pressured to act.

We are on MS Roald Amundsen November 11 too. We are arriving Nov 9 to Santiago. The videos of the riots and military are very upsetting. If the situation continues, I can’t imagine Hurtigruten wouldn’t cancel or change the itinerary but this is our first time with Hurtigruten. We’ve been around the world and never been in this exact situation before. I really wish we could get some guidance.

Today's update.  I'm getting the updates via the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program webpage

Taxi, bus, and truck drivers have disrupted traffic on several major thoroughfares, including routes to the Santiago airport, which may continue into the weekend. Local authorities report organized marches through sections of Vitacura and Las Condes, which will make their way to Metro Tobalaba and then onward to Plaza Italia. Local authorities expect thousands of participants in Plaza Italia.

Other protests and demonstrations are expected to occur in areas of Santiago throughout the weekend. Continue to monitor local news and government announcements for up-to-date information.
