Being overly familiar and calling me "hon" or "sweetie" and asking about my day or what brings me there is off putting.

I think that applies across the board to most anyone, not just restnt servers.   I just don't like it.

Do you attach candy to tips in restaurants or hotels?

I have left a surprise of goodies for hotel maids when I was flying and had a few cans of soft drinks or snacks I did not want to take on the plane.

We often do a goodie bag for stewards of "hot" chips or "hot" candies.
