Thank you for your post on the Need Help Using the Forums? Check Here! forum and welcome back to the Cruise Critic message boards! 👍 I see it has been a few years since you posted on the boards.

Please note the information at the top of the first page of this forum:

Note:  This area is intended only for questions and answers relating to technical assistance in using these message boards.  Please do not post general cruise-related questions or Roll Calls here.

Since your inquiry concerns one particular port, I have moved your thread to the Ports of Call - Asia forum where it will be on-topic. Now that you are on this forum, please browse through the other threads looking for those related to your inquiry. You may find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers regarding the same inquiry.

Cruise Critic is a great resource and we are so glad you came back to us wirh our new "look" due to the software change in October 2018. emo34.gif  Please feel free to browse the Categories list. Read a few threads in various forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads on the top of the first page of threads in a forum. You will find very important instructions or information there.

Please remember the following stated in the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free memberships:

Browse Before You Post
Browse a topic first to see if your question has already been asked or answered by someone else. Also, many of the major cruise lines forums have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) topic that has been created by our members. Give that a try first. Browsing is your #1 best resource! Please post your messages in an appropriate topic so that you'll receive the best possible response. It is very time consuming to move misplaced messages that are in the wrong topics.

Anytime you want to start a new thread on any forum, make sure you are on the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This will help the members that know the information and they will reply to you. It is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic or concerning one cruise line, ship, port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum. emo3.gif  You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship, port or sail date in your inquiry if it will help the members with their answers.

For finding fellow Cruise Critic members sailing with you on your cruise, please read What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Know and How To: Create A New Roll Call . Please note tour share requests may only be posted on the Roll Call thread for your cruise sail date and in no other forum.

And don't forget, after your cruise be sure to go to our Member Cruise Reviews section and submit your review for publication!

I sincerely hope this information will be helpful and so glad to have you back aboard Cruise Critic! emo35.gif

Happy sails,

We were on the Westerdam this past March that had an overnight in Shanghai before sailing.  We loved that the Holland America offered a free shuttle to Huangpu Park at the end of the Bund.  We walked the whole length to Yu Garden and the touristy area with all the shops and restaurants.  Then walked back to catch the shuttle back to the ship.  We are actually doing this cruise again in March 2020 but with some slightly different ports.

Tip:  Make sure you have enough cash.  We didn't and there were no ATMs and we were not allowed to change money at the bank because we did not have our original passport.  Only the copy stamped by Chinese Immigration and the bank would not accept that.

Were there no atm's at all or just none were you were?

We will be there for one day on a tour and were planning to stop at a atm to get some Yuan.

No ATMs at all.  It was so frustrating.  The taxi driver the night before charged us so much more than I was expecting and it left us without yuans.  Next time I would exchange a few dollars at Customer Service on the ship before heading out.  Maybe not the best rate but at least we'd have some cash to buys some small things like food and souvenirs.

Take a taxi...very easy and cheap in Shanghai. Have local currency ...Yuan for this.

Do you know exactly how much a taxi would cost?  We took a prepaid taxi from the airport to a hotel 2 km from the dock and it cost us $369 yuan and then when we got there, the taxi driver wanted another $80 RMB for the toll roads he took.   WTH???  We couldn't argue so we paid it.  Rome2rio.com said it would be about $24-$29 so I am curious if anyone can confirm the cost from the airport to the dock or at least even from downtown to the dock (or visa versa).

Don't want to get ripped off again on our upcoming cruise in 2020.

Walk out and get in taxi line...never pre-paid...Is usually approx 160 Yuan from PVG to our hotel near the Bund off Nanjing Road...hope this helps...Also always make sure before you get in it's a metered taxi never flat rate !!!
