petuniaflower Posted November 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2019 We are from Canada, Toronto area, so we often fly low budget lines from Buffalo to FL area/ports. Totally unfamiliar with Cape Liberty, and I know there are several airports you can fly in to, but is there one airport/line is usually cheaper? The prices Im getting are way more than going to FL, yet way closer! Also, I have checked the googlemap time for driving from Toronto area and is around 8 hours, is that usually an accurate estimate, or should I be aware of usual issues/contruction areas if we chose to drive? I thought leaving from a NY port for us would be easier than FL, but it may not be the case.. Thanks!
Rare Got2Cruise Posted November 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2019 The most convenient and closest airport to Cape Liberty is Newark Airport. If you take a cheaper airline from JFK or LaGuardia, the transfer costs would probably eat up all that was saved on airfare as there are tolls and extra fees involved. Use a matrix such as Kayak to find the least expensive fare. Use the live version of google maps. That is accurate. But everything is fluid depending on the day of the week and time of day you travel. And yes, there could be construction or an accident that particular day.
Nitemare Posted November 15, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2019 Look into Porter Airlines that flies to EWR. Driving can be delayed by weather construction or delays at the border.

So add that to gas costs of driving and there may not be much or any savings over flying.
138east Posted November 15, 2019 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2019 What exact date would you be doing this? Two people? Flying in the day of (very risky) or the day before? Do you need a hotel? Got2cruise is exactly right - you have to look at the big picture. EWR is the airport of choice. Transportation costs from LGA or JFK could reduce any savings by $200+ If you drive, there are park, sleep, cruise packages available for Cape Liberty.
Rare mskaufman Posted November 15, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2019 Newark would be my choice. I would think about Philadelphia and the train (not Amtrak) before I would consider JFK or LGA.

It would be end of May, 7 of us, we usually fly in day of, especially if not winter.
138east Posted November 16, 2019 #8 Share Posted November 16, 2019 Exact date you would be doing this? You would likely require 2 vehicles, so figure at least $400+ in transportation for 7 people from LGA or JFK. Flying same day into EWR improves your chances of not missing the cruise if flights are delayed.
