tt3579 Posted November 28, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2019 First time to Alaska, but not cruising. I would like to see wildlife such as Eagles, bears, and more. What excursions are good for this that won't break the bank either? Walking is not an issue. Thanks

AKStafford Posted November 29, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2019 Denali National Park if you are going to be in Southcentral Alaska before/after your cruise.
mapleleaves Posted November 29, 2019 #4 Share Posted November 29, 2019 Since you're not cruising, Denali is a great location for wildlife viewing and very budget friendly if you take the transit bus instead of the tour bus. For land travel , the Alaska forum of tripadvisor is a far better resource than cruisecritic. Start by reading the TOP QUESTIONS and past trip reports. tt3579 Posted December 5, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted December 5, 2019 Wow I need to read what I write. We “are “ cruising. Sorry. We will visit Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan.
mapleleaves Posted December 5, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 5, 2019 when ? Successful bear viewing tours coincide with salmon runs. Ketchikan is the best location for those tours but they're costly since you fly-in. Check the town web site for details: https://www.experienceketchikan.com/bear-viewing-in-alaska.html Unless you do a tour, your chances of seeing bear are pretty slim during a cruise. Not to say it doesn't happen, but it's rare, primarily because it's you and 15,000 other people in town for the day. There are LOTS of trip reports posted above .... read thru them and see what excursions were successful or where people just happened upon bears. ie some people have seen them in May/early June during the drive from Skagway.
