Pacific Adventure maiden voyage

Recommended Posts

Arrival in Sydney Oct 30 2020. So this has been discussed on another thread as to whether Pacific Adventure will dock in White Bay as listed in the port schedule or debark everyone by ferry and there's been some dispute about getting her under the bridge as Golden Princess has never been able to.

I messaged P&O and asked the question and this is their reply...

"Hi Chris, thanks for your message. When Pacific Adventure joins P&O, she will be able to fit under the bridge and will berth at White Bay Cruise Terminal on 30 October 2020."

Not sure exactly how but they did say it would be a spectacular arrival.... I hope for all the right reasons.  😅

Golden Princess fact sheet

https://www.princess.com/news/backgrounders_and_fact_sheets/factsheet/Golden-Princess-Fact-Sheet.html

height 177 feet = 53.94 metres

Sydney Harbour Bridge

clearance =  49 metres

Yes I've seen this and it definitely doesn't fit,  yet if you check out the Sun Princess fact sheet https://www.princess.com/news/backgrounders_and_fact_sheets/factsheet/Sun-Princess-Fact-Sheet.html it states she is 8 feet taller than Golden... which has to be rubbish surely. So I guess you can't place too much faith in these statistics.  Sun definitely goes under the bridge though.

Haha, whay exactly are those things for,  can anyone who's been on Golden princess tell me?

It's actually the Skywalker Lounge. A great bar and lounge that has great views and is rarely used during the day...and is the nightclub at night. It was removed from some of the other Princess ships...due structural concerns.

The view would be good from there, but it definitely looks like a handle. I can just see it getting wedged under the harbour bridge on the way through.

The structure (funnels?) in front of the handle (Skywalker Lounge) seems to be the taller of the two when looking at photos of the Golden Princess. I read an article from a few years ago where it said that Sea Princess was only able to go under the bridge at low tide. I don't know if that is correct or not. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Just throwing this back into life, as it looks like the ship will arrive at last this year.

Firstly, RIP David.

The recent video footage does show Pacific Adventure with shortened funnels. I thought the trolley handles would have to be removed too, but that hasn't happened.

A different link from the NSW Roads & Waterways shows the clearance for shipping as 53 metres. This number has increased over the years.

https://roads-waterways.transport.nsw.gov.au/documents/projects/sydney-inner/sydney-harbour-bridge/bridge-facts.pdf

It still seems far-fetched, but the port is holding those bookings at White Bay, and P&O service staff are still acknowledging the modified ship will make it under the bridge.

Sun/Sea/Dawn Princess didn't need tidal approval, but required the service gantry to be parked over to one side. Noordam/Oosterdam have required extra approval based on tides.

Yes it does appear that the funnel structure has been lowered.

We sailed on the Pacific Dawn in 2009 & 2010 and the Captain advised that they had to lower the upper part of mast above the ships bridge in order to pass under the harbour bridge.
