cheap stuff to do

My daughter and her 3 friends will be there in July.  I don't think they have much of a budget for excursions.  It is my understanding there are no beaches near the ship.  What can they do (aside from stay on the ship!)?  I know my daughter has her own snorkel equipment - not sure about the other girls.

TIA

Kathy

Get off the ship.  Go to the craft market just outside the tender pier (cheaper prices better quality than inside the tender pier shopping area).  Just watch for things NOT made in Belize.Take a stroll around to the right to the small light house and Belize sign.  It may be possible that they can hire one of the horse drawn carriages for a city tour.  Come back to the tender pier and enjoy  some conch fritters and libations at the Wet Lizard.

Please please please..... just my opinion of course, but I recommend you do an excursion.  Belize is a country that is comprised of jungle, jungle, jungle, and small outer islands.  It has some of the best Mayan ruins available to see on a day trip from a cruise.  If nothing else, do a trip to Altun Ha ruins.  If you can do a trip to one of the bigger ruins, all day trips, or do a cave tubing trip in the jungle, or do a trip to one of the tiny islands off the coast for snorkeling.

of course.... these are all from Belize city... so depends on which cruise line they are on.

They are sailing on Carnival - Legend.  Horse drawn carriage won't happen.  My daughter has been to ruins many times during her life - never in Belize - but I really don't think the other kids have the money to spend on that type of excursion.  Is there an independent tour company in Belize that everyone likes?  I know of great ones on other islands - but nothing on Belize.  Maybe I can find them something cheap??

Cavetubing.bz has a cave tubing excursion for $35.  It includes transportation from the cruise terminal, a jungle hike, cave tubing, and a Belizean lunch with a drink.  I've used this company three times and have always felt like I got my money's worth.
