Marella Colours of the Far East Port Help Please

Hi there

Being fairly new to cruising I wondered in anyone could help with some port information please. We were wondering whether the ports at Singapore, Malacca, Langkawi and Penang were suitable for doing our own exploring or whether we were best to arrange excursions with the ship. We found on our last cruise that some ports were in the middle of nowhere so we couldn't set out on our own.

Thank you.

As mentioned Singapore is easily doable on your own with great MTR links. Do be aware there are 2 cruise ports in Singapore: Singapore Cruise Centre (SCC)at HarbourFront and the Marina Bay Cruise Centre (MBCC). Both are located not too far from the city centre and are well served by public transport: taxis and MRT(subway) for MBCC and including buses for SCC.

Penang port is also near down town and the centre is easily walkable from the cruise ship.

Welcome to CC and to your first posts.

Given the number of ports on a typical itinerary, cruise port info is mostly about reading and learning how to SEARCH the boards and threads here on C.C. for detailed info to save having to scroll through pages of threads which are not relevant.

Several useful sites for you to read for info on where you are docked, distances, transport etc.

We like whatsinport which has extensive worldwide port listings, but there are others.

And the official Port Authorites websites in a number of ports also have cruise/tourist info.

And the DESTINATION section here on C.C. lists some, but not all ports too.

If unsure where to find it, go to the top of the page and use the RESEARCH dropdown. Hit DESTINATIONS then take it from there.

And if you do a simple internet search, there are often Tripadvisor Forum Qs and A's in the results.

You might also want to join a Roll Call for your ship and sailing date.  There you can exchange info with fellow pax, and possibly arrange taxi shares, private tours etc.

If you cannot find a Roll Call, consider starting one.

Some discussions on these itineraries on the Marella Board.

Hope some of this helps.
