Hi Joe and Dianna. Looks like y'all have already had three cruises during hurricane season. The season is May 1 through November 30.

My last three cruises have been in September, and have had no problem with weather. It's just HOT HOT HOT! Yes, the captain will take the ship out of harm's way should a tropical storm or hurricane raise it's ugly head. Don't worry, just go and enjoy! We cruise alot in September!!!!!! It's our anniversary month!

We have had wonderful weather, smooth sailing and even lots of sunshine on our cruises.

You may have a few rainy days or a day of rough seas, but overall, September is one of the best months to cruise. We have had alot worse weather cruising in October.

The best part of cruising in September is the kids are back in school and usually the rates are fantastic!!!

Have cruised Western Caribbean twice & had hurricanes both times. The sea can get a little rough, but no problem really. They take you out of harms way. One time we had to divert from Cozumel to Vera Cruz. The prospect of a September cruise bothers me so little I have another booked this year for the Western Caribbean.

Hurricane season is actually June 1st - Nov 30th. 6 fun filled months. We did have a tropical storm form in May last year, maybe the first one ever.
We love Sept.but have been lucky.Last year,we were on a head on path with ISabell on Sept 14th
Western sailing. If she had not have turned,it would have definitly re-routed our trip.
She passed a few hundred miles east of us ,and we never felt a thing.Beautiful smooth seas.
Still very warm in the Caribbean, and the rainy season has not started. Also, you are out of the rough Northern winds, that can cause rough seas in the Winter months.So.....if you dodge the hurricanes, its great sailing.

2001, we had Hurricane Erin (I think was her name). Capt. kept us updated a couple of times a day but it was a joke....she was like 1K miles away from us. Ship had maps all over showing where she was every day and where we were, her path, our path...it got to be funny

We didn't have any problems at all.

We have cruised many times in Sep. and will again this year. If you are worried take the southern route as another poster said. The southern islands are below the hurricane belt. [ocean currents and prevailing winds run easterly in the south] Aruba for one has never had a hurricane. Good thing because 99.99% of the island is about 5 feet above sea level.

I cruised last September and I remember that the weather itself was nice and sunny but it was hot. It was miserable in St. Maarten. I have never sweated so much in my life. I still remember walking back on the ship and feeling that first blast of the A/C. Boy did it feel good!

You do take the change of hurricanes causing problems with itinerary changes also.

brn2cruz, I stand corrected. You are right, of course, about June 1 - Nov. 30 being hurricane season. Living on the Gulf Coast, I really AM aware - too aware. I just had a senior moment!

Cotton..My senior moments started at about 35
My aunt and family lived just outide Gulfport, when ( can never remember her name)
hit Biloxi.Lets see I was 6 0r 7,so so 69-71...must have been Camile
It was so bad..They had pine needles through there brick walls,trees..whole pine trees sitting on roof tops,a bathtub in the top of a pine tree. The beaches were still closed due to all the glass. All those plantation homes destroyed..And there stood Jefferson Davis home..hardly touched...(as my memory recalls)
We have dodged so many bullets here.I did travel to the Bahamas DURING hurricane Alicia.

Howdy yall,

When we sailed the RCCL Explorer doing the itinerary for Eastern Carib on 9/1/01, we had 4 hurricanes around us in the caribbean, but never did we have rough seas. They figure that ships cost in the hundreds of million dollars to make ... uh yeah, they'll sail clear of any storms which could hurt their ship!

Go during September. Its great, the weather's great, its hot, but great! The prices are good, since its in hurricane season, but we've never had a problem sailing!

Happy Sails,
Mrs. Tulpule

O.K. not trying to be a downer here, but while I love to cruise, I'd doubt I'd cruise again in September! My first cruise was the Southern Carribean out of San Juan in mid-September. It was our honeymoon. We had a great time, but unfortuantely 1995 had about 13 hurricanes total, with 2 the week before our cruise, one during the week of our cruise. We made it to three islands out of 6 (two of which were not on on our itinerary, but they made arrangements so we didn't spend all eight days folating around the ocean!) and of those it poured buckets on two of them! The others had been devestated the previous week and were off limits. Don't get me wrong, we still had a great time, but it was NOT the warm sunny break I was looking forward to after the year long stress of planning our wedding!!

We celebrate our anniversary trip, cruise or not in March now!! We can get a great rate the first week since it's between the grammer school winter break and the college spring break. The weather is great, and we spend our anniverary up here in NH during the beautiful fall foliage and PLAN our winter getaway!!

Either way, you'll have a great time, I guess it just depends on your tolerence for "risk". I'll try anything once, but when it comes to cruising in September in the Carribean, once was enough for me!

Just a quick mention here - yes, it was Camille in August 1969, the worst hurricane to date. We lost 1/3 of our beachfront home. But we were so much luckier than thousands of others.

Statistically, the months that have the most/worst tropical storms, depressions, and hurricanes are August and September.

However, on a happier note: I DO cruise in September, and really do not give thought to bad weather. Should a hurricane approach, I'm safer on the ship than I would be in my own home.
