Classiccruiser777 Posted December 30, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2019 My wife and I love Oceania. Just about everything is great but there is one area where I believe an improvement could be made. When we (rarely) Cruise on Holland America there is one thing we really like and that HAL does far better than Oceania and that is laundry. HAL will wash and press a bag of laundry, everything that can be stuffed in one bag, for a flat $20. When the clean clothing is returned the socks and underwear are in a tissue wrapped basket and slacks and shirts are pressed, on hangers and in a garment bag. What a nice job HAL does and I wish Oceania did the same.
Rare Noxequifans Posted December 30, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2019 Different lines concentrate on different things. These amenities come with their associatd costs. Sort of a balancing act where to spent the budget
KS&JW Posted December 31, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2019 Yes, I agree I would like for Oceania to do this.

Sort of a balancing act where to spent the budget I think that you are most likely correct. In an ideal world, I would take the “best of” from all cruise lines (examples - Seabourn Square from Seabourn, enrichment from Crystal, service from Silversea’s small ships. food from Oceania, etc, etc) and put it all into one cruise line. The problem - how many people could afford to cruise on that cruise line 😀
Rare Essiesmom Posted December 31, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2019 Most HAL ships do not have self serve laundry. For me, I only use laundry service if it is free as a loyalty perk or is there is no self service. EM

EM HAL offers unlimited laundry done very well as OP demonstrates for $7 a day per cabin...a tremendous value.

It was alright. If we travel with them again, I'll likely do underwear myself (and carry some bleach).
Mura Posted December 31, 2019 #10 Share Posted December 31, 2019 I always do underwear myself ... 😁 That's why I prefer to do all laundry myself ... but that being said, on our most recent cruises (once this concierge benefit and above came into existence) we have used it. But I still prefer to do my own "unmentionalbles".) I don't mind having the ship's laundry do our socks, jeans and etc.

Since they now have six ships with no smoking in casino and adjacent areas, we cruise with them on occasion only for unique itinerary, adjust our expectations and have a very enjoyable time. OP pointed out how HAL laundry service is better than Oceania's and I merely commented about the cost.
Toranut97 Posted December 31, 2019 #12 Share Posted December 31, 2019 Do the O ships still offer the laundry by the bag for a flat rate option ? In my experience it was offered once or twice on cruises over a week in duration. That is helpful! Hope they still offer it.

Unfortunately that benefit comes with a three day turnaround. Works for us sometimes, but that slow a turnaround does not always work. However, we always have the alternative of doing laundry ourselves for items we need quickly.

That is the official policy but in reality the laundry is returned in 2 days most of the time IME.

rheasue38 Posted December 31, 2019 #16 Share Posted December 31, 2019 Hi! When you pay for laundry on Oceania, the underwear and socks are wrapped in tissue paper. We also find the cost of the dry cleaning quite expensive but the work is excellent! Rhea

On HAL I am a 5 Star Mariner! Woopie free laundry! Yes they shine there but everything has gone down hill!! We will be sailing on the Rotterdam in March 11 SD to FLL! Only reason for us is to finally take 2 cruises on Riviera from Miami on March 31! HAL’S food quality has gone way to the dark side and yes we are loyal HAL cruisers!! Just today on HAL CC they are cutting back on their bar menus with less quality drinks. We sail in Neptune Suites and even there things have changed! I will gladly pay for quality and enjoyable great quality food! HAL freezes meat chicken and fish !!! I want to enjoy quality fresh food! Not on HAL. I am not the only one. Sorry did not want to vent! Also purchasing laundry packages now used to be $20.00-$30.00 depending on cruise and location. $49.00 now. The CEO ORLANDO ASHFORD has made terrible changes! We will stick with Oceania. Denise😊 PS HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Rhea We were just on Marina a couple of weeks ago and our laundry came back folded but n the bag we sent it out in. Nothing more. And it was clear that everything was washed together in cold water with no bleach as the things that we sent out could have used some brightening. In the future we'll do it ourselves. I hope someone will reply here. @rheasue38

Go-Bucks! Posted January 3, 2020 #23 Share Posted January 3, 2020 I got free unlimited laundry on the world cruise and it came back just like that picture...non-hangables wrapped neatly in tissue paper and everything else on hangers. What's wrong with that? It may not be free for everyone but it's done nicely.
drkitkat123 Posted January 3, 2020 #24 Share Posted January 3, 2020 so is sounds like there could be a few different types of laundry service: Free concierge level laundry (3 bags per cruise) - wash and fold only Free unlimited laundry on world cruise - wash, fold and press Paid laundry - wash, fold and press... Can this really be true?

Can this really be true? I don’t see why not. For example, O offers different categories of excursions. Some of the OE excursions have the identical itinerary to the “regular” ones except the OE are limited in size vs a larger bus tour. You want a better, more personalized experience? You can get it if you are willing to pay extra for it. You’ll also can get the laundry back the same day for extra charge. Certainly not unique to Oceania or cruise line industry.
