vikielynne Posted January 6, 2020 #27 Share Posted January 6, 2020 I love the Empress, never felt any movement / rocking. I did feel like the bed / mattress was really hard - I mentioned it to one of the bartenders in Boleros and he asked what deck I was on - that night my cabin steward had added another comforter to my bed to add more padding. The crew are outstanding throughout the ship!

kelson21167 Posted January 6, 2020 #29 Share Posted January 6, 2020 I have cruised on the Empress many times and will be again on the 19th and March 1 I love the feel of more space to sit and relax and watch the sea . Not every nook and crannie has something stuck there. The casino is small but I never found it over crowed and I definitely liked walking outdoors. 4 times around and it’s a mile. We spent a lot of time outside on deck 6 just watching the watcher and reading. It was very comfortable. Inside, we spent most of our time in Boleros or Schooner. My other half loves to play in the casino, I noticed the bar only has 6 seats, is it generally crowded? (I like to sit and relax there) It was more crowded for the $2 mimosas at sea days. Are the buffets for breakfast and lunch packed and crowded and the lines go slow to get food, or do they have individual stations of different foods all around as they do on the Oasis class ships I did the Cuba cruise, so my mileage varies from Twangsters. They don't have individual stations really set up, and there were times the lines moved a little slow. But, for some reason, most everyone seemed to veer to the right side instead of the left. The left side has pretty much the same stuff, but it seems less crowded. Thank you so very much for your help!

Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted January 11, 2020 Author #34 Share Posted January 11, 2020 I realize she does not have a diamond lounge...I do have the drink package and not looking for the drinks but do they offer food/appetizers for diamond guests on this ship and if so, where would this take place? Is the bar in the viking crown lounge open during the day? Our experience with Chops on all the past RC cruises we taken were not good, in fact, we stopped going to Chops the past two years, how is Chops on this ship, would you say its better or the same? I have anytime dining and reserved my times each evening, what is the approximate wait time to get our table? Is there anything besides room service to eat around 1am, if so what should I expect to find to eat? Are there refrigerators in the staterooms, we have a JS. Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted January 11, 2020 Author #35 Share Posted January 11, 2020 Hello, We will be on the Empress and disembarking in Miami, question, for those who have cruised on the Empress out of Miami, what time did you get off the ship? We have a 10:25am flight out of Miami International, do you feel we will make it? Does RC have facial recognition for disembarkation? How long did it take you from getting off the ship to going outside the terminal Did you find difficulty or very long waits for a cab or uber driver? We will be on the 6 night cruise arriving back on saturday.

There is no lounge or any dedicated event. You will have 3 vouchers loaded on your sea pass card to be used at a dedicated time and for the same menu as ships with a lounge. Since you have the package, that won’t matter. No place for appetizers. Depending on your dinner time, I guess you can pick something up at the windjammer. enjoy. m Edited January 11, 2020 by cruisegirl1

The Viking Crown Lounge is always open, the bar in evening hours. Parts of the VC are used by Adventure Ocean at times. The upper area is the Gym. This VC is not elevated like others just at deck level.

Some C&A members (D+ or upper end D+, pinnacle ) and suites are offered breakfast in Chops and a speciality coffee can be ordered then. There might be a D and up area in the dining room so of course speciality coffee can be ordered there also But, If I remember correctly, there are a couple of times where they have a brunch rather than breakfast or lunch in the dining room. When that was the case, one could receive a complimentary mimosa or bloody Mary. It was not advertised and you had to ask for it but it was complementary. It has been over 2 years since we’ve sailed empress so I don’t know if that is still the current practice. enjoy Edited January 12, 2020 by cruisegirl1

Great little ship. HD is Julie Young unless she is on vacation. She does a great job with the crew. Julie is getting off on January 26th to take a different position with Royal. Great HD.
