Hello!

my partner and I are on the Celebrity Reflection British Isles Cruise this August. First time for both of us. We stop in Glasgow August 13 at Noon and then depart August 14 at 8:55pm.  We would really like to see Edinburgh . Is there an easy way to plan this on our own? Any advice and tips would be appreciated! Paul & David

With those timings which include an overnight, would sometimes suggest you travel to Edinburgh and overnight there and return next day to maximise your time.

BUT...it is August. Town is bursting at the seams and accommodation (even if you could find any at all) is at its most expensive-and that means really expensive!

Depending on your interests, it is either the best or the worst time of year to visit the city.

Are you aware of the International Festival, the Fringe Festival and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo? All run in August, hence the crowds and the cost.

Ship will likely run shorex to the latter as the overnight stay in port means it is doable on day 1 but not on day 2.

Crowded certainly but a great atmosphere. Be aware that "normal" sightseeing could be slowed due to the crowds and the many distractions you will find on the streets.

Plenty previous threads on the topic, the SEARCH on this forum should bring them up if you use wording such as "Military Tattoo" or "Edinburgh in August".

Don't know if you already read the above, but a further suggestion is to check your Roll Call.

There is a good chance that some of your fellow pax will also be heading to Edinburgh, and there could be the opportunity of sharing a ride, or sharing a tour to Edinburgh or elsewhere. This could apply in other ports too.

You can also exchange tips and info.

If you don't know how to find your Roll Call, go to "(name of cruiseline) Cruises" Roll Calls, scroll to the name of your ship and click, then look for the sail date.
