teacherhoosier Posted January 5, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2020 We are booked on the Carnival Fascination cruise March 22-29! We are taking a red eye flight from Cincinnati Friday evening and arriving in San Juan early Saturday morning. The other members of our group are not flying in until later in the day. We fly back out again the Sunday of the cruise, so we only have the one day. What are some of the must-dos to fit in during our one day there? leen50 Posted January 5, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2020 We liked the San Cristobel Fort. Used our Nat'l Park Passes in April so it was free. Also our favorite museum: Casa Museo Felisa Rincón de Gautier. We love to walk/hike, so that's what we do.

Old San Juan is a wonderful city to just sight see, have something to eat and drink. There are many restaurants throughout the city. There’s also two forts you can explore. Be prepared to walk up and down hills on cobblestone streets.
havanadaydreaming Posted January 5, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2020 Wander around old San juan. Find a spot to eat. I have my favorite haunt but I lucked into it my 1st trip. Lots of great food to discover!
Rare SRQbeachgirl Posted January 5, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2020 The trolley has not been running lately in Old San Juan, so if you want to go to the El Morro fort (which I highly recommend) you can either take a cab or walk. There are cabs lined up as soon as you exit the cruise terminal and they are pretty cheap. We took a cab to El Morro last July and then walked back through town, stopping at shops and taking photos along the way.
Rare Tapi Posted January 5, 2020 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2020 We just returned from a 10 day vacation with the family in Puerto Rico, and even that length of time wasn’t enough to cover the “must do’s” 😂 I agree with others. Focus on points of interest in Old San Juan. The San Felipe Del Morro Fort (El Morro) is iconic and a definite place on the “must do” list. The San Cristobal Fort is smaller, but closer to the port if you don’t want to trek all the way to El Morro. Personally, I would take a taxi to El Morro, visit it, and then walk from there back to the port. This is easier than walking TO the fort because you’ll be walking downhill. Get a map and figure a walking route that takes you by the San Jose Cathedral, and La Fortaleza (Governor’s Mansion). Stop at the many shops with locally crafted goods, and maybe stop at a little outdoor cafe/bar and enjoy a local drink. You won’t have much time to see much more in such a limited amount of time. Have a great time, and please return to Puerto Rico for a longer stay. Even though San Juan is just your embarkation port, Puerto Rico can easily be the most fascinating destination in your itinerary. But you need to set aside at least a week to visit. May1cruiser Posted January 5, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 5, 2020 FYI, there is a carnival excursion for after the cruise that will take you from port to the rainforest and then drop you off at SJU. It has mixed reviews, but we enjoyed this and it filled time between debarkation and our late flight home. It was a different experience than the city....and we love nature. Joebucks Posted January 5, 2020 #9 Share Posted January 5, 2020 When did the rainforest (rental car) and walked through old San Juan. Both were pretty cool
