I am booked on the NCL gem and really want to do tis tour but it's sold out.  Are there any independent tour operators that offer it?

Kindly do research usiing RELIABLE reviews (not fake ones) on TA (and elsewhere)

 

Every hurricane that hits PR affects bio bay negatively.

After the double hits in 2017, bio bay was basically shutdown.

 

People have to earn a living and hence it has been restarted but it is nowher enear what it used to.

 

a) It is total waste to go 20 out of 30 nights due to noonlight

b) Mosquitoea re present all days of the month

c) you really need total darkness to see anything

d) need to be of certain fitness to handle kayaking in pitch dark surrounded by mosquitoes prayting that it does not rain

 

Electric boat cud be an alternative to kayaking hassels. But there is only one company is using electric boats and they do get sold out quickly

 

While it seems there are dozen plus tour operators, they all use local vendor (and there only handful for kayaking and only 1 for electric boat) for bio bay part (they all love to do the easy Rainforest part - with so much of rainforrest still shutdown, they are making HUGE money in the rainforrest tour racket). 

 

Rainforrest can easily be done DIY with rental car.
