Buying coffee near the downtown pier

I’D like to buy packages of ground Puerto Rican coffee to bring home, but not at souvenir prices or in fancy packages. We are docked in San Juan from 1 pm to 10 pm on a Tuesday.  Is there a grocery store within walking distance of the pier?  Or would they sell coffee in the CVS drugstore near the pier?

There's a SuperMax grocery store in the Plaza de Armas.  Typical Puerto Rican coffee (the stuff my MIL drinks) is Cafe Rico.  

 

Yaucono coffee is a little bit better, IMHO.

 

But it's all really good.

If you want specialty coffee, roasted on the premises and grown at their rancheras, try Finca Cialitos on Calle Justo or Cuatro Sombras on Recinto by the Courthouse. Each offer coffee from different growing areas.

I think Caficultura on the Plaza Colon also sells coffee beans.

Prices aren't overpriced like in Jamaica, but more expensive than the every day stuff at Supermax. Think Peet's versus  Folgers.

Highly recommend Cuatro Sombras.  Some of the best coffee I have ever had from anywhere.  Have a macchiato while you are there.  You will not be disappointed.
