SERK Posted January 8, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2020 I figured there would be more than just 2. There were 2 formal nights on our 8 day cruise.
lennythenose Posted January 8, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2020 We are sailing the February Panama Canal Journey Cruise from San Diego to Miami and we will have 2 Cruise Elegant nights and 1 Throwback formal night.

Rare shof515 Posted January 8, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 8, 2020 it seems to vary depending on the cruise and the cruise staff. I did one journey cruise and they were 3 formal nights a few years ago and then in june i did another journey cruise and they was only 2 formal nights

We are taking a Journey cruise in May and DH will probably wear a tie, but it might be nice to leave the jacket at home.
braveslake Posted January 10, 2020 #10 Share Posted January 10, 2020 There were 3 on our 15 day Panama Canal cruise. The throwback one did seem dressier. It had the throwback Captain's party with it! However, my hubby did not bring a jacket nor wear one to any of the 3.

The Throwback Captain's Gala is the most formal of the three, but the current rules still apply. 😎

I know that I will probably get flamed but I just wore slacks and shirt and I was over dressed. Some wore tux and some suits or sports coats.

A tails jacket is longer than a tuxedo jacket but both are traditionally worn with the usual bow tie, stud shirt and tuxedo pants. I asked because I'm pretty sure folks do not wear tails anymore... but for throwback 80's, I was asking if perhaps tails would be appropriate.
