Check in to the ship and return to the city

Hello! Can we check in or drop off the luggage at the ship terminal and then return to to the city to spend some time at the Riverwalk Stores near the cruise terminal? is it mandatory to embark after the check-in?

It depends on your cruise line's policies. A lot will let you disembark (much like an in transit passenger). But you would be best checking direct with your cruise line to confirm.

There would be no problem in dropping off luggage, exploring, and then boarding. Two separate processes. The French Quarter is easy walking distance, if you would rather do that.

Is it possible to walk from Erato terminal to Mardi Gras World?  If so, do you know how long the walk would be?

About eight blocks. Not a bad walk. Just go down Port Of New Orleans Place (that's the street that the Erato terminal is on) and you will run into it.
