Amex Offer for HAL (and all other Carnival brands)

I just saw this offer from my American Express Gold card.  I'm going to buy $525 of onboard credit since I've already paid for my cruise in full and see if I can get the $100 statement credit.

Get a one-time $100 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $500+ on cruise line sailings with Carnival, Holland America, Princess, Seabourn, or Cunard by 3/31/2020. See wlcl.com/amex. For reservations only. Terms and exclusions apply.

We did this on our Dec cruise and it worked great!  Got about half of it refunded to our credit card (use a different one for your onboard account).

We were able to do this with our Delta Amex before final payment. We each put it on our cards and paid $1000 total and got $200 credit. It appeared again on our Amex Blue after final payment, so we each put $500 on our cards for OBC and got $200 credit again. If we don’t use it, we will get that refunded by HAL, but think we will probably find a way to spend it onboard!

We are close to final payment on our April cruise. We only got it on 1 card this time. But for this cruise we have made 5 $500 payments for a total of $500 off the last couole months. Good timing with the offers!

Did you use the same code multiple times? My code only loaded once. Just so I'm understanding, you used the code that expires in March 2020 several times?

No. There was a 12.31.19 code on 4 of our cards. And the March one only came on one card.

We only have one AmEx card so I have added the offer to it. If I spend $500 twice, would it do the $100 credit twice?

We’ve already paid for the cruise, but have excursions and cruise enhancements to buy yet.

Phoned PCC last week and placed a $600 payment on upcoming cruise. 2 days later had a $100 credit on my delta gold amex. Yep, I love that card.

Can you tell me when/how you got this offer to apply to your card? My Delta gold Amex is not showing it under the benefits/offers.  Thx

I asked this question and was told no, but I tried it anyway. After my $100 was added I wend back and tried to readd the promo. No luck. I was told that the promo comes out once or twice a year so I'm waiting and watching for a new promo. This site has been excellent at letting me know when the promo's come out.

Unfortunately, It doesn't apply to all Am Ex cards.

Was in my "offers" screen, probably a couple of months back. I saved the offer and used it when needed. I think it's good till the end of March. You need to grab it as soon as it's offered; sometimes the offer comes and goes in a blink. Sorry if you missed out but don't give up. This kind of offer comes around maybe a couple of times a year. Also couldn't hurt to phone them and ask. Best luck.

Thanks, saltshell. Great info and advice.

No, it disappears once you use it. If the offer comes up again (with a new expiration date), you can use the new one in addition. We were able to do this on a HAL Boston to Canada cruise in 2018.

The term "For Reservations only" above.....does that mean the $100 statement credit is for reservations only? Or can we pre purchase shipboard credit and earn the statement credit?

I was able to get the credit for purchasing OBC.

OBC can be used for tips right?  I have to pay tips for 4 of us soon so this sounds interesting.

Yes (as Ruth already said).  Plus, remember that any unused purchased OBC is refunded to the credit card you have on file when you checkin, so it really does not matter.  Also, purchased OBC can be used in the casino (unlike HAL provided OBC).

As Dave said, 'purchased' OBC is refundable, as are some others. Some OBC is not refundable.

Only non-HAL/Carnival OBC can be refunded. If you have Carnival stock OBC, any from some HAL offer, or other such OBC, that is 'use it or lose it'.
Any non-HAL OBC from your TA, gifts from friends, or OBC that you purchase in advance, that is refundable.

The HAL/Carnival OBC is used first.
