Gatwick things to do?

We can do a direct flight home from Gatwick, leaving at 10 a.m., but it would mean staying overnight near the airport to make that flight on time.  Just wondering what there is to see and do in Gatwick area, if we choose to spend an afternoon/evening there.

It's pretty easy to hop on the train and go up to London from Gatwick. I suspect you could find something to do there... 😁

Or go the other way on the train down to the seaside city of Brighton. 
 

Chartwell (Winston Churchill's home) and Hever Castle (Anne Bolyen’s childhood home) are both within about 20 miles of Gatwick, but would require transportation.

haha, agreed, plenty to do in London.....but we're having a week in London before the cruise so I think we'll be ready to head home instead of going back again.

Highly recommend a tour of Chartwell House if you have the time and inclination - we are big Churchill fans and loved it!

I would stay at an airport hotel, for a stress free departure morning, but spend the previous afternoon in Brighton.

There are loads of things to do which don't involve going to London!  It does depend what sort of thing you are into and what access you have to transport.  But there are loads of walking trails, you can go to Box Hill (think Jane Austen) or Leith Hill and Leith Hill Tower.  As mentioned Hever Castle. Theres the British Wildlife center only 15 minutes away.  The Bluebell railway - a beautifully preserved steam railway - about 20 mins. The Gatwick Aviation Museum.  Theres a Go Ape if you want to do a rope trail - or an escape room complex within 15 minutes.   Chessington World of Adventures is about 30 mins away if you want a theme park (for that matter Thorpe Park is about 40 minutes away if you prefer something aimed a little older.) 3 Mini / crazy golf courses.  Loads of choice.

Lots of great ideas, thanks everyone but we mow have another plan.  We are going to spend the day in Sourhampton after the cruise and get the train to Gatwick later in the afternoon for an overnight stay.

  This website was recommended to me:  www.stasher.com.  Looks like there are 2 or 3 locations that will store luggage for 5-6 pounds per bag
