donnakidston Posted January 16, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2020 Evening all, We disembark in Rome from NCL Getaway in August and we don't fly til the evening. We usually spend a few nights in the city but that isn't possible this time. I fancy doing NCLs Rome shore excursion that will drop you at the airport in time for return flight. Is this sensible? I figure they will deal with our luggage etc as I don't relish dragging my luggage around Rome as I try to sightsee. We wouldn't normally book through the ship but it seems like the best option. Any advice gratefully received,or indeed alternative suggestions. Thank you Donna
CruiserBruce Posted January 17, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2020 Or, you can do like we did...a tour with Rome in Limo, that drops you at the airport. Your bags will be in the car with you.
Twickenham Posted January 17, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2020 You can always take the train to Termini and leave your luggage at the left luggage office, tour Rome, then take the train to FCO for your flight.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 17, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2020 (edited) The tour isn't a bad idea, in terms of convenience and seeing something of Rome. As suggested, you can make arrangements with a private driver that will be just as easy but will enable you to customize your day a bit more to see things YOU want to see. However, it will be more expensive if there are only two of you, compared with the ship transfer/tour. The other option, per Twickenham, has a much higher hassle factor -- checking and retrieving luggage, getting around Rome on your own, getting to the airport. If you travel light and have some familiarity with the city it's not so difficult but for a first time it might be stressful.
