Late afternoon flight from EWR

We are arriving Cape Liberty at 8 am and our flight is not until 5 pm from EWR.   Cruise excursions are of no interest as don't want to do a drive by of NYC sites and get dumped at the airport at 2:30 pm.

We will have bags in tow.   Anybody have any ideas?  May just get a day room at an airport hotel.  Any suggestions for that.  Does anyone know if United limits bag checkin to X hrs before departure like some airlines do at some airports?

Do you want to sit in a hotel room, relax and watch tv or do you want to see anything/do anything in particular?

As a general rule you cant check your bags in more than 4 hours prior to a domestic flight on United.

Booked a day room at Renissance on Spring street in Elizabeth via dayuse.com.   Anybody have experience with the hotel.  I read some good reviews of the onsite restaurant.   Is there anything else around it or should we expect to grab lunch at the hotel?

I don’t see the difference between hanging around in a motel room in NJ or hanging around the airport.

If you’re really adverse to taking the tour you mentioned. You can rent a car, drive to Liberty State Park, then return the rental. But you’d still have to get to airport to return rental and get thru TSA. EWR is very busy during the late afternoon due to all the international departures.

Or, Uber/Lyft over to the Newark Airport Marriott, checked the bags with bellhop, and enjoy a relaxing lunch first. Free hotel shuttles on a frequent basis to all airline terminals. Don't rush off the ship on disembarkation morning.

Marriott at EWR used to do a very nice weekend brunch but no sure if they still do, $$$ parking fees now keeping us away when in the area.

If you are a Untied milage plus member you could always buy a day pass to the united lounge at Newark airport.  That way you can relax and have food available in the lounge.  I have done day passes in Delta's lounge at various airports.  It's cheaper than a hotel.
