Puerto Limon Custom Van Tour with Your Lucky Tour

We met Eduardo just outside the fence at the port. Our ship arrived almost an hour late and he was patiently waiting with our name on a sign as planned. We had discussed the destinations we wanted to visit when booking the tour and before we departed, we refined the plan a bit, based on Eduardo’s recommendations.

We traveled first to the BriBri indigenous people’s home in the mountainous jungle a little over an hour from Limón. Eduardo did an excellent job of translating and explaining the BriBri guide’s descriptions of how they used all the various plants and resources of the area to survive in their traditional lifestyle. We were especially interested in the process they used to make chocolate and saw a demonstration from start to finish, with delicious samples at the end!

During the drive, he showed us some Costa Rican currency which is no longer used but is so beautiful that it looks like a work of art. He also gave us delicious samples of dried chips made from the local plantains. Our tour van was modern, air-conditioned, in excellent condition and very comfortable.

We visited a local roadside store, took a driving tour of downtown Limon, and saw the very large cathedral there. We also stopped for a cold one at a local restaurant high up on the hill above Limón which had a fantastic view of the town, harbor, and ocean. We had requested to buy some of the local coffee so Eduardo took us to a local market and we found excellent coffee at a very reasonable price. At the end of the tour, we were dropped off just steps from the port and an easy walk back to our ship.

Thanks to Eduardo’s extensive local knowledge and easygoing personality we had an excellent and relaxing day trip and saw places and learned things that you would not experience on a typical large commercial tour. We had various things in mind to see and do in our short time in Limon and Eduardo easily came up with a tour that accomplished them. He is friendly, knowledgable, and very easy to work with. He had along with us another driver, Alexander, who is also very helpful and knows the area. We highly recommend Eduardo, Alexander and Lucky Tours if you are looking for a unique look at Puerto Limón and the surrounding area

Without being cheeky, how much was your tour?

We're looking for a tour on our cruise day, but getting quoted $400 plus!

Yikes. I am starting early to look into Limon for April 2021. Most of us don’t travel with a huge group and since there is really no way or organize one via CC (and seems like it might be against the rules?) custom tours are out for us. Did you ever find anything for a reasonable price?

People organize group tours on their Roll Calls all the time and it absolutely is allowed. That's the place to do it, not on the Ports of Call boards.

I said it seems like it might be with a question mark, I don’t see a lot of it on roll calls and we cruise often. Mentioning and comparing yes, but I had no reason to know the full policy in this regard and so indicated uncertainty.
