What would YOU suggest for a Platinum/Diamond gift ?

There is no reason that any of the suggested items could not be part of the 25 item selection.  I'm assuming that carnival spends no more than $5 for a gift.  I'm also going to assume that Carnival does not want to offer a gift that competes with the items people normally purchase, like drinks or internet or apparel or pixels, etc.  So let's come up with an updated list of $5 items using everyone's suggestions so far that doesn't compete:

  1.  Ticket for a Funship cocktail on Embarkation day -- (OK, this competes... but I recall my first cruise in 1987 with Carnival that every passenger received a Funship cocktail on Embarkation Day).

  2.  Key chain
  3.  Nice pen
  4.  Reusable cloth grocery bag ( Carnival would get free advertising if they put their logo on the bag )
  5.  Bottle opener
  6.  Salty snacks bag
  7.  Ear plugs

  8.  Sleep mask

  9.  Luggage strap with Carnival logo available in several bright colors

10.  Blanket

11.  Towel

12.  $5 off item in Fun Shop

13.  Night Light

14.  Lanyard
15.  Luggage Tags
16.  Fold-able duffel bag
17.  Carnival head phone

18.  Metal drink straws

19.  Silicone drink straws

20.

I can think of several reasons why it will not happen

Oh... I never implied it would happen or even had a chance to happen.  It is nothing more than a response to the OP's question, "What would YOU suggest for a Platinum/Diamond gift ?"  This is what I suggest... along with a few other's suggestions.

All good, just trying to put a reality check on it.

I would like the Tervis cup brought back.

We did a B2B2B and received six of these.  Left them all in the cabin. As one may guess, I'm not  too big on possessions....

AFA a realistic, universally liked gift, I'd suggest a voucher for a single drink (I'm a shareholder too).

This. Kill the gift. Give me a few drink tickets.

And for those of us who don’t drink alcohol or soda? I pretty much drink sparkling plain water on or off a cruise.  I’m Diamond on RCCl. It seems like lots of perks revolve around free “drinks”.

I like the idea CHOICE or End. 🙂

I'm thinking because it's already on the ship. The only thing they might lose is revenue from someone who may be paying for it.

Of course, I am Diamond and get Premium level.  Forgetting the cost factor, what do you think the performance level would be with 2/3 of the ship using it?

I'm not sure how it would be, but it will cost them nothing to offer it to D/P guests. Maybe it will be a little slower, but it will still cost them nothing. Now-a-days it's probably 2/3 of the ship getting it anyway, so it is what it is. I thnk it's a great idea.

Won’t belabor the point further than this post.  We travel in groups usually and they are all plat or Diamond and one per cabin gets the premium package (let’s say for discussion it costs $100 for easy math). 15 people now getting for free what they paid $1500 for.  Multiple that times the rest of the Plats and Diamonds on each sailing.  Then the performance goes down the tube to about dial up speed.  Add to that, people who paid for it complaining and getting their money back.  We are talking real money loss and a lot, per sailing of every shift.

So, it is about revenue then, got it!!

Performance is what it is.

Just a clarification on performance, if 500 people are online it is X, if 1000 are online it is 1/4 of X, if 1500 It is 1/10 of X.  Of course I am making up the numbers but the performance degrades exponentially with usage.  Kind of like a highway, when 50 cars you can go 60mph, when 100 cars it is 45mph and 150 less, rush hour analogy.

Luggage strap, tote/duffel bag, blanket, coupons without restrictions, discounts, maybe straws or beach towel all sound good.  We have gotten headphones - gave one set to our grandson & I have no idea whether we still have the other set.  We have gotten night lights - like those & use them in the house - great for avoiding finding furniture with your toes.

My favorite benefit so far has been the laundry.  While I won't trust them with delicate items, I will gladly pack less & let them launder some of my shorts & shirts.  It's really a great benefit if horseback riding was one of your excursions.

My least favorite gift was the lanyard - traded for night light.  People who have taken enough cruises to be platinum will already have a lanyard if they are inclined to even wear one.

When we sailed Princess, a reusable bag was given to everyone I suppose, since we've only done one cruise.  It came in very handy.

OBC. Something everyone can use.

Yes! Maybe $30.00 or $40.00 for Platinum, and $40.00 or $50.00 for Diamond. And, since Carnival is charging outrageous prices for FTTF, they could take a portion of that profit to cover the OBC.

Yeah I was thinking something like $25 platinum and $50 diamond. As long as it's at least $15 it's enough to book one of the non-steakhouse specialty restaurants or buy a couple of drinks. With OBC someone could use it in the arcade, casino, gift shop..put it towards an excursion. They don't have to find a one size fits all gift to order for everyone.

Some of the past gifts I have appreciated-

the crystal engraved cordials were my favorite.
carnival logo blanket

Tervis tumblers

the game board was a cute idea but I didn’t need 4 of them.

It does seem that they’re getting “chintzy” when they’re currently giving a glassy picture of a ship you’re not even on! I’ve been cruising carnival since they gave you a full color picture of your ship- everyone got one.
They’ll never please everyone.  I won’t be surprised if the simply eliminate the perk altogether. I don’t see them offering obc. Maybe they could add to the milestone club meaning you get a one time discount after reaching platinum and then that percentage increases gradually every 5 cruises until you reach 25.

I didn't even realize there was a gift. There are plenty of good ideas, but you have to change it out constantly or offer a choice ($10 GC to Fun Shops would be a good option).

Personally I'm trying to get to Platinum so I can get FTTF benefits without the added cost and sellouts and the laundry. Nothing else really seems that appealing. The other top reason for me to get there is to match it on MSC (though I'll probably break down and just match my current Gold status since it will probably take 5 more years to get the remaining 50 days I need).

Just give me a coupon with several choices that could suit any cruiser. The choices could be:

1. 30 minutes of free internet

2. 1 free photo (I'll probably buy more)

3. Half off a drink that I can use anytime

4. Promo for the gift shop

5. Another large free water

Low cost for Carnival but high reward for the Platinum cruiser who can pick something that they find beneficial.
