I’m not sure how to post pictures and I’m considering doing a live thread next week. Can you share how to post pictures taken from my phone? Thanks so much!

I copied this from a post last autumn which might be helpful - I am going to try when we are on our March cruise ...

But Tapatalk has gone away, hasn't it?

TapaTalk is still available, although the linkage to CC is sometimes painful

@kjbacon, looking forward to your blog. Hope the internet access on board is good enough to allow you to post regularly without too much frustration.

If you want to practice before going live on this Board try using the CC Test Forum. There you can experiment with uploading photos and inserting them into your posts.

@kjbacon the key to success is to reduce the size of the files you want to upload.  You can do this by using an app on your phone, laptop or your tablet (I use Snapseed, which is a Google product, is straightforward and efficient with plenty of online support).  When I return from the day's activities, I I upload the photographs I've taken from my camera (I'm old fashioned!) to my tablet and edit those I want to use before posting in my blog (old fashioned there as well - I post them to my blog rather than here).  The principles are the same however - I try to get the large (sometimes 5MB+) down to about 500KB before posting, which makes them super-quick to upload and saves me a lot of hassle!

All very good suggestions, I highly recommend making good use of the Test Forum to get comfortable doing posts with photos in them prior to boarding, so that you will be more efficient once on board, which will take up less precious cruise time.    A few other thoughts-

As mentioned, posting from the ship can be problematic due to internet speed, which according to recent reports is worse than ever.  So I think that resizing will be a key to successful posting from the ship.  Gilly made an excellent suggestion in using Snapseed, the other advantage to using this is that you can quickly and easily do some fixing up of pics that may not be as pleasing as you would like.  When shooting from a tour bus or walking with a group, you may not have time to compose a shot the way you would like.  With Snapseed, in a few seconds you can straighten and crop an image to your liking, very easy to do. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube to learn this app. If you enjoy fooling around with editing, there are lots of other stuff you can do with it, but that is purely optional.

Here are some suggestions for resizing with Snapseed- in settings, go to "export & sharing options", and set to 1366 px.  Under "format and quality", set it to JPG 80%.  Doing this, I was able to reduce a file size from 9.35 MB to 166 KB, and uploading the 2 images to the Test Forum, I was unable to tell the difference.  But there will be a huge difference in the time it takes to upload from the ship, with the first image, you can set it to upload, have some breakfast, and if you are lucky, the upload will be complete when you are finished eating.  More than likely, you will get an "upload failed" message.  Very frustrating.

Tapatalk is another good option as it allows you to downsize prior to uploading pictures, but I would only recommend it if you are using an iphone, the android version is clunky to use IMHO.

If you have any questions about this stuff, please ask.  Good luck, and have a great cruise, looking forward to reading your report.  When are you sailing, and what ship?

@boblerm  thank you for adding the details!  To be honest, I set up my "edit" settings so long ago, I couldn't instantly recall how/what/how much!!   Your step by step is perfect and exactly what was needed, as was the reassurance that the picture quality, when viewed on a screen, remains more or less the same.

Cheers!

@Gilly, you are welcome.  I have seen your blog, and trust me, photo quality is not an issue whatsoever, far from it!   If you are using Snapseed to  downsize your photos, that is as good a proof as any that this is a technique that works well.

@Gilly and @boblerm, thank you so much for the introduction to, and mini-tutorial on, Snapseed.  On our Mariner Asia cruise last year, I downloaded Image Size in a near panic when I began receiving one "Upload Failed" message after another, and it was a blog-saver.  Now I have two file-downsizing options, which is extra comfort as I prepare to host a very special joint live blog starting some time next week!

Rich, we surely have something to look forward to, are you perchance on the Splendor inaugural?  Whatever you are going on, wishing you a fabulous cruise!

BTW, for those who are contemplating using Snapseed, or any Image Resizing apps, I strongly recommend getting the apps before coming on board, since poor internet may make it impossible to download the apps on the ship.  Rich, you were fortunate that you were able to get the resizing app on the ship.  I once attempted to download an app while on a Silversea cruise, no luck.

Also, it's a good idea to learn how to use them beforehand.

Thanks, @boblerm, Ginny and I are looking forward to a Splendorific experience starting very soon, and are counting on your sailing along with us!

I was in fact lucky to be able to download Image Size from my stateroom while I had a good connection but agree it is best to download Snapseed and/or Image Size from home, and then get comfortable with the app(s) before pressing them into service onboard.

I'm very curious to see how good of a connection we'll have aboard the Splendor.  No doubt that will be the subject of a post or three.

Thank you all so much ... I think this is going to do the trick! Every live blog I’ve ever seen is enhanced by the pictures and I’m a sucker for food porn anyway so be ready!

We sail Tuesday on the Explorer to the Southern Caribbean. It will be our first time to the A-B-C Islands so we are very excited. The best part is that our friends from the Seattle area are joining us and we haven’t seen each other in 2 years so good times coming!

Bob - many thanks for yet more tips.  Much appreciated.  I am now off to find a YouTube tutorial on Snapseed...

Rich - I (and I am sure others) are eagerly waiting for you to "lay the table".  Travel safely to Barcelona and treat the ship kindly!!  Bob,  I and our spouses  are both on the 14 March Splendor cruise from San Diego!!

Jagoffee, I look forward to sailing with you. We are signed up for the Meet and Mingle, are you?

Yes, we will see you there.  We are currently at the Four Seasons.
