juneau car rental

is there anywhere at the port or downtown juneau to rent a car for the day?  we are in port 8am to 8pm, and would love the ability to drive out to mendenhall and cruise the area on our own, as well as take the bridge over to douglas island to drive around.

Looks like the dock has an Avis (https://goo.gl/maps/tW7xksPouy3Zdc8FA) and a place called Juneau Car Rental (https://goo.gl/maps/zcYydTBpuNoF7xaP9). Everything else is at the airport which is almost to Mendenhall Glacier.

Both are about 1 mile from the tram although the AJ dock is about 2 blocks from Juneau Car Rental.  If there is a ship at the AJ Dock there will also be a shuttle that goes back and forth all day between the dock and the tram. $3 the last time we used it. We used the shuttle to get back to the tram after dropping the car off one trip.

 

We’ve used both Avis and JCR and both closed before we dropped the car off which can sometimes be a bit risky but we had no problems.

Both Avis and Juneau Car Rental are out near the AJ Dock, which is away from the other cruise docks. I walked to Avis from the Mount Roberts Tramway station in about fifteen minutes. It's uphill going, but downhill coming.
