Are we being paranoid?

No, what there's no evidence of is your assumption that once winter is over so will the COVID-19 epidemic.

This isn't the common cold, nor is it even influenza. Once again, we have no vaccine, we have no immunity due to prior exposure. The common cold has a a negligible mortality rate and influenza's mortality rate is a tiny fraction of COVID-19"s.  You're just ignoring or don't understand the mathematics.

Even a certain someone living at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.who for weeks downplayed the situation now has apparently accepted the scientific data and projections put on the table by his medical experts and has agreed to the social distancing measures recommended by the CDC. It's about time you went along for the ride too.

You're getting political now and I don't play that game on a cruise forum nor do I get political when I actually cruise. 🤨

Today's cruise ship pics.

Sunday 26th. April, Covid-Year-2020

Still stuck in Barbados! We're down to five cruise ships now

in our waters, but they're starting to leave, one by one.

These guys are anchored in Carlisle Bay.

Vision of the Seas and AIDAluna.

TWO Carnivals

steamed into Bridgetown Port this afternoon around 5 p.m.

Carnival VALOR first, and then Carnival FREEDOM a bit later.

Crew are being repatriated, I'm told.

Knowing that a few islanders work the Main Dining Rooms on board
the ships may be making side-trips to St. Vincent? St. Lucia? and others
to get ppl home.

Two day's worth of cruise ship photos from Carlisle Bay

The bright ones, while out shopping today for alternative masks!

Exciting stuff...

Vision of the Seas figures big in these, being she's the closest-in to shore.

AIDAluna and Seabourn Odyssey are the two others.

Two Carnivals have now joined 'the Barbados Fleet'

- Freedom and Valor -- Glory arrives next week.

But for now the three at anchor in Carlisle Bay

that seem to be permanent fixtures these days

are the same three - Vision, Luna and Odyssey

Look carefully..

you might see other ships on the far horizon

This info release from our Gov't. Information Service

just an hour ago....

Two people tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday

out of a total of 163 tests conducted by the local Laboratory.
They are a 58-year-old Barbadian woman,

who arrived in the island yesterday and whose case is under investigation,

and a 42-year-old crew member of one of the cruise ships off Barbados,

who was transferred from the ship for emergency medical treatment.

This is not good news for the other guys on his ship!!

Further to that bad news

the local Civil Aviation Authority released this Directive

that we shall not be accepting incoming tourist passengers

until the end of JUNE!

27th. MAY 2020

HARMONY of the Seas - just pulled into Port this morning

to facilitate repatriation of some 4,000 crew members

via air, from our island airport, going home to Europe and the Far East

RFA 'Argus' is a Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel (British)

stationed here for the Hurricane Season, in case!

Other cruise ships are still at anchor in Carlisle Bay-or fooling around offshore.

AIDAluna and Seabourn Odyssey are now permanent fixtures

- having been here for well over a month!!

Thank you for the wonderful pictures !

We are booked on a Celebrity Cruise - due to be in Barbados on September 20, 2020  -

We are still optimistically hoping that this cruise will actually happen 😄

Any thoughts on whether your beautiful island will be open to cruise ships then ??

THANKS

I think I heard local media talk about cruise industry resuming

as 'September' -presumably from Sept. 1st?

Sorry to hear that.

This awful Covid thing has seriously screwed-up the entire world!

Only place that escaped was Antarctica!!

Canadian Territory of Nunavut ( population about 40,000) has had zero cases.

Here in Barbados

the general protocol among us island residents

is that we all walk with a mask in case we need to go in to the Bank,

to the supermarket or the drug/stores.

Once it's an enclosed, air-conditioned place,

you'll need to be wearing your mask -or they simply won't let you in!
And they'll spray your hands too, with their happy juice

(It's often bitter, so don't bite your nails!)

BAD NEWS for the Bajan cruising community

Carnival is shifting ships around and -

Carnival Fascination itineraries from San Juan and Barbados
have been cancelled for 2020-2021.
In its release, Carnival noted that this reflects a return-to-operation focus
on mainland drive markets in the U.S.

UPDATE  FOR  CHRISTMAS  2020

Here on the Eastern Caribbean island of Barbados

things are relatively normal!

We have no Covid out and about!

Any cases discovered are all 'imports'

-visitors coming in from abroad for their holiday

about 1% of which get tested positive and are placed in quarantine

until they test negative again (MOST unfortunate, sorry...)

- but that also allows the other 99% of incoming visitors to enjoy the island

and earn us some badly-needed ForEx revenue

thus keeping the island's fragile economy from tanking entirely!

Everyone now walks with a mask in their pocket
(wife keeps a stash in the car's glove compartment!)

- for entry to Banks, Supermarkets, Stores and Shopping Malls.

Guy at the door takes your temp.

and sprays your hands with Magical God-Juice -and you're cool to go in!

Everyone practices social distancing, more or less

no more huggy-kissy between females these days, I notice.

But in this breezy island environment

few people walk around outdoors wearing masks on a regular basis

or while driving the car! Then again I must assume

that such people are diabetic or may have other comorbidity issues,

and need to be that much more careful than the rest of us!

But if you're not here -you're missing out!

Only two cruise ships now ..left lingering in our waters...

Serenade of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas.

Harmony-OTS  recently took off, bound for the Miami area

so maybe something's cooking....

Meanwhile, on the Covid-19 Vaccination scene

two certification cards have recently emerged

so we might expect to see a few more of these in circulation

as time goes by and more and more people get vaccinated.

Shown here are the American card, issued by the CDC..

and the UK British card issued by their National Health Service - NHS!

Not sure how secure those cards are - they look easy enough to duplicate - but glad to see that there will be some sort of proof of vaccination available.  My guess is that cruise ships, ports, and maybe other transportation and public spots (theaters, concerts?) will at some time require proof.

TWO new cruise ships in town. Big muthers, too!

Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection!

Both at anchor off Carlisle Bay

-quite far offshore, presumably in non-reef areas.

Two others, RCL's Freedom and Serenade still drifting about offshore

as they have been now, for quite some time.

So for now, we are back to four ships in our waters

- indefinitely 'twould seem
