Diamond Princess passenger "tested positive for Wuhan coronavirus"

Recommended Posts

There does not seem to be any signs of concern with them still in the same room. I hope for their sake it is safe for them and she does indeed have enough antibodies to avoid getting it again.

The last 2 individuals (including Carl I am assuming) have moved from the Biocontainment Unit to the National Quarantine Unit at Nebraska Medicine. One of them did receive the "drug trial anti viral medicine that is on fast track". They had to have had pneumonia like symptoms to receive.

UNMC/Nebraska Medicine is now monitoring 15 Americans for the coronavirus who were passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Thirteen of these people are positive for the coronavirus while two are negative. Two of the individuals who had been receiving care in the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit have now been transferred to the National Quarantine Unit because of their improving condition. Everyone we’re monitoring is now in the 20-bed National Quarantine Unit and the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit is now unoccupied.

Carl's blog is worth reading:

https://www.hometownstation.com/santa-clarita-news/editorials/third-member-of-the-four-amigos-tests-positive-for-coronavirus-part-14-314649

It appears he is taking part in a different clinical drug trial. I think he must have written this last night or this morning as Nebraska Medicine said this afternoon that all 2 patients were moved from Biocontainment Unit and this blog doesn't mention that.

To that end - is there a mega thread on just coronavirus period for us to discuss on this site? This is a wider crisis and certainly a big travel issue... not just limited to DP.

I once did comment on another thread that cruise critic needs Health and Safety section😆

Would 100% agree that this board needs a Cruising and Health .....was reading that Princess is now sending out a note to passengers to bring enough meds for 2 weeks!!  I do think there will still be some follow up relevant to DP only and this seems to be the correct thread for that.

Israel, whose only 2 cases (so far) of the virus are two passengers from Diamond Princess, has taken the extreme move of recommending that Israelis refrain from any foreign travel:

Thank you Ruth.

We met on the Breeze TA!

there was previously a discussion of whether one can get the virus a second time...I indicated at that time that if experts don't know then always a possibility...discussion was about the Abels where Sally tested negative and David is positive .  Sally still has bad cough.  Ran across this  online https://www.ccn.com/two-bizzare-new-coronavirus-cases-stroke-global-pandemic-fears/.  Not the only source either...apparently this woman tested positive....then after some time and care negative and returned to dr. with more symptoms and has the virus again!  This virus follows no rules.  This was in Japan where they have now closed schools.

We just received that notice, as well as the suggestion to get an international mobile phone plan. They also instructed to bring an additional 2 weeks of meds beyond the length of the cruise.

Is this a reliable source?  The R0 rate (number of people one person can infect) is stated to be 12 in this CCN article.  It is 2-3 according to https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

I find Dr John Campbell’s daily YouTube videos well worth watching. Evidence based and clearly explained. Wonderful resource.

you can decide for yourself whether it is reliable. It is reported by many sources including Japanese sources..again not enough is known other than I believe this woman got it twice. Just disregard if you don't think it bears consideration.

There has been evidence with other strains of Corona Virus that they can go dormant, only to reactivate later on.  It appears that this strain might now be showing the same characteristics. It would explain the problems with testing that have been repeatedly demonstrated.

If true It would also increase the odds that this could turn into an annual event turning the cold-flu season into the cold-flu-Covid season, now if we could just get the summer drop that the other two demonstrate.

Summer Olympic Games upcoming events and major events in Europe and Japan are being re-evaluated. WHO is responding. We’re in a holding pattern on Bermuda in May and Europe this fall.

“To my understanding, no decision has or will be taken in the near term regarding the future of the Olympics,” Dr. Mike Ryan, the head of WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme, said on a call with reporters. He said that WHO is working “extremely closely” with event organizers and is providing them with risk assessment and management advice.

He added that other mass gatherings, including the Olympics and the Special Olympics, proceeded during the outbreaks of Zika and SARS. “If you cast your mind back to those events, many of those events went ahead with appropriate risk management,” he said.

We cancelled April 2nd  M011 and MO12 and was charged 20%.

Also my flight cancellation cost me $400.

We received an email and Princess is offering a full refund for the cancellation fee, and a 25% future cruise credit.
