Money in Cartagena

We’ve visited Cartagena twice (most recently last month), and while we haven’t bought many things (and certainly not jewelry), we’ve gotten by with USD.   On this most recent visit, we intended to tour the fortress of San Felipe de Barajas. I was concerned that we’d need local currency for the entrance fee, but they accepted USD, as did the taxis. Frankly, the Colombian peso is so unstable, I suspect that USD are very desirable. Obviously, I can’t say that you would not have a problem in any specific store.
