Selfish and first world as it is, I'm worried about the hysteria causing me to lose a few thousand dollars and a much anticipated trip. Judge me as you will. It's going to run its course just like all the other viruses we've dealt with. I'm not a total jerk..I feel for those affected..but I can't do anything about that and it's historically just a fact of life. Really glad this trip doesn't sail out of Seattle at this point. But come ON man...let me go on my cruise!! <running and ducking from all the hate I'm probably about to get> I don't think you are selfish at all, but I totally understand how you feel. I have been feeling pretty selfish about this whole thing too. Not because of upcoming cruise plans, but because of what we do for a living. We own a bakery and we sell bread at farmers markets and trade shows. The show I just finished yesterday was probably about 15% down in attendance. I have a lot more shows coming in the next couple of months, including one in Casper. I am concerned that shows will be canceled or that people will be too afraid to go to crowded places like trade shows. If we don't sell bread, we don't make money. So that is me, being selfish.
eas2225 Posted March 2, 2020 #480 Share Posted March 2, 2020 From where I live, there is no mass hysteria at all! We went to the grocery store Friday night, then to BJ's (like Costco), and was able to purchase everything we needed. Maybe its regional, not sure. I'm concerned because we are on the Legend in September, leaving from Venice and my husband has pulmonary/cardiac issues, so I do want to know what's going on with the virus. No hysteria, just a normal concern.

A good indicator of common emotion is the stock market, and panic is an understatement for that.
Joe817 Posted March 2, 2020 #482 Share Posted March 2, 2020 My wife just told me(and I read it) that not-to-be-named social media group, that the Freedom was denied entry to one or all of these ports: Jamaica, Grand Cayman. The ship is now sailing to Belize, Key West, and I don't know where else. Can anyone verify this?

Host Carolyn Posted March 2, 2020 #485 Share Posted March 2, 2020 Lots of off topic conversation here. This board was created so you guys would have a central forum to post about how this virus was affecting your Carnival cruise plans, changes in itinerary etc but it's evolved somehow into debates re media hype, death rates from different viruses etc. There may (or may not be, hopefully) lots of changes coming that will affect your Carnival cruises. Let's please keep this on topIc for that. I'm sure there are message boards dedicated to statistics, media coverage of this etc. but this isn't the place because information on itinerary changes, boarding requirements, cancellation policy issues will get lost in the jumble. Thank you! 4
Hoosierpop Posted March 2, 2020 #486 Share Posted March 2, 2020 If it’s true that Carnival switched the Freedom itinerary away from Jamaica and Grand Cayman because they just don’t want to deal with those islands, I think that’s great. No need to put passengers through that waiting game to see if they will get to dock.

I actually live in Casper. You won't have any trouble here...it's totally be business as usual. I think being small and kind of isolated, we always feel like that's "the rest of the world". But yes, I totally get it. I wonder if things will calm down a bit once it becomes more widespread and people see that the world isn't ending after all. My cruise isn't until May 2nd, so who knows where we'll be by then. Fingers crossed.

No need to put passengers through that waiting game to see if they will get to dock. This is definitely true, saw a post on Facebook including the passenger letter from Carnival. If I remember correctly the new itinerary is Sea Day, Key West, Sea Day, Cozumel, Belize, Sea Day. It may be Belize, then Cozumel but they are back to back. I think this a good sign Carnival is on top of the situation, looks like Jamaica and Grand Caymen are refusing entry but Cozumel has decided it will be business as usual. I don’t blame Jamaica and Grand Cayman, it’s a tough decision, they must do what is best for their citizens and tourist industries and so will the cruise lines. There are plenty of beautiful islands in the Caribbean, everyone just needs to be flexible. I am starting to get excited again about my cruise, who knows where we are going?

Tiffnate531 Posted March 3, 2020 #490 Share Posted March 3, 2020 Going on the Horizon leaving the 15th of March. We are excited and looking forward to our cruise. I'm thinking if it was unsafe to sail that Carnival would be canceling cruises. Any thoughts??

But my wife and I are in a low risk category even if we get the virus, so I understand if people who have certain conditions would be hesitant. thesmiths Posted March 3, 2020 #493 Share Posted March 3, 2020 My trip to Phuket Thailand 3/27 to 4/4 for a conference was just postponed until March 2021. Phuket is on my bucket list , am disappointed but will have the opportunity next year. Was able to get refunds on everything. Am Scheduled to sail May 2nd. That would have raised some red flags when they scanned my passport and asked me if I had bee out if the country.

Experts are saying that masks don't do a lot (OK they make you feel good) but washing your hands any opportunity you get or upon return home after being out there in public - is by far the most useful thing you can do! MANUAL transmission would seem to be a big factor! SO. Stop shaking hands, don't rub your eyes, don't bite your nails and stop picking your nose! LOL - these are habits we all have. Can you convince my 5 year old of this? 😂 Baking cookies with him was a nightmare. He couldn't understand why I kept telling him to wash his hands again (he touched the dog, put his hands in his mouth, etc). We are booked to go in April. It's going to be a fun task keeping his hands clean.
dgreeney Posted March 3, 2020 #496 Share Posted March 3, 2020 What to do while playing in the casino? Apply hand sanitizer after each press on the slot machine, or each hand in card games?

Rare 1kaper Posted March 3, 2020 #498 Share Posted March 3, 2020 We are scheduled to cruise 4/12. Cancelling is not an option now so we will be going and taking precautions like hand washing. I am not so concerned about the virus as I am about being denied ports of call. I will be disappointed but we have already had the discussion that we will find a way to enjoy a cruise to nowhere (although I really hope we don't have to). If Carnival cancels the cruise, we are flying in early to our port. I will just look for a place to stay that extra week and hopefully find something. I'd probably rather that than a cruise to nowhere. But I'm going to a conference call from the head of public health here in an hour. So maybe my mind will change after that. 😂
Rare 1kaper Posted March 3, 2020 #499 Share Posted March 3, 2020 I would use a wipe to clean the machine first. And hand sanitizer after play. Since you are the only one touching the button, if you clean it, I wouldn't clean it after each press. Probably hand sanitizer after playing cards. But I'm a face toucher so I'd probably avoid cards personally.
Garf Posted March 3, 2020 #500 Share Posted March 3, 2020 It's time Carnival allow guest to cancel there cruise, with out penalty, if they think it's not safe to travel. Most airlines have implemented this now.
