Paradise Party - Pacific Sun, hello!

Hello fellow cruisers? I've just been on Paradise Party 28/01/06 that left from Sydney to the South Pacific. Was anyone on that cruise? How funny was it, with Cyclone Jim threatening us with disaster? Bon Apetito! So did anyone see this really cute dancer called Daniel on the ship? I was drooling. Just wondering if anyone knows whether he was gay or not? I could tell Greg and Cameron were gay. How funny were they - loved them. It would be such a waste if Daniel was gay.

Anyone got any memories they would like to share?

Welcome to the boards. How much did Cyclone Jim affect you? We noticed that you were caught in Noumea for an extra day! Was this your first cruise? Or are you a frequent traveller? How did you find out about Cruise Critic?

Gee, so many questions!!! Sorry about that, please feel free to answer any you want. We love to hear about other people's experience. It helps us to remember ours.

When we were on the Sun in Sept we were hit by some really bad weather. On the way out we went through Gale Force 10 winds and on the way back got Gale Force 11 (which is one below Hurricane). We also got hit by a freak wave which turned the ship on a 45 degree angle and did a lot of damage. We saw it as an adventure while others had a major panic. Gave us some great stories to tell when we got back.

Cheers,

Chaz:)

Wow! wouldn't have fancied that sort of weather, Cyclone Jim really wasn't that bad!!! He was classed a category 1 cyclone, but towards the end of the cruise he was downgraded to a tropical storm. I don't know if he still retained the identity of "Jim". Maybe he would be called something else if he re-appeared. Some people suggested he might even have a sex change and become a "cyclone Jane" lol.

Anyway, he didn't really have that much of an impact on the cruise, we missed out on seeing mystery island because our cruise path would have taken us close to the storm, we ended up going to Divine Island instead. It was great, hot and sunny. We couldn't do the champagne waterfall because the swell was to great.

Yes this was my virgin voyage - but I will definately do it again. I just need to find other people to go with (my friends got sick pretty bad so didn't have such a good time). Now I know what medication to take for sea-sickness, and I know that I get my sea-legs pretty quickly. I didn't want to cruise to end and I even had wild fantasy's about getting a job on a cruise ship.

Thanks for making me feel so welcome Chaz;)

I know the feeling..... then after a couple of weeks of normal life again you kind of get the feeling that they just are fantasy's and will probably never happen.

Cheers,

Dan.

Welcome 4theloveofcruising. Those seas legs can get you at the most unfortunate time!! My DH took 2 weeks to get over it. lol lol. Funny how after being on a cruise you tend to want to work on a ship. At the end of my first cruise in 1976 i felt the same way. (sometimes it's a shame we let boy/girlfriends get in the way. especially after the relationship's ended!!) oH well, it obviously wasn't my true calling!! lol lol.

When are you looking at doing your next cruise?

At the moment I have just started the 3rd year of my PhD. I can't see myself getting away for another cruise for maybe 10 - 12 months. :( *sniffles at the thought* Man I hate commitments!!!! As it is my supervisor was prettty pissed that I went on the last one so soon after christmas.

But I am seriously considering, after finishing up my PhD, taking 6 - 12 months off and working on a cruise ship. I don't really know what I would be qualified for though. Scientific research and cruise ships don't really seem to mix well.

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion about which of the australian fleet is the best ship to travel on. I was under the impression that the Sun was the biggest, is that right? Do the other ships differ much? I have to say I thought the pools on the Sun were really small.

Where are you cruising from and to, Cruiselover96 (Kerri) in 1 month, 2 weeks and 4 days time?

4theloveofcruising we cruising from Singapore (cruising the eastern sunsets) to Koh Samui, Bangkok, Kuantan back to Singapore, then cruising (western tropics) to Malacca, KL, Langkawi, Phuket, Penang and back to Singapore. We are in Singapore 7 days before the cruise and 2 days after we get back at the end of our 14 night cruise. :D :D

Soooooooooo excited:D

We've waited 2 years before doing another cruise (went to USA for last 2 years), so the excitement is almost too much:p I cruised for the first time in 1977 and I can't believe that I didn't get back to it until 2002.

We were told that the Pacific Sky was in Noumea when we docked, but I never caught a glimpse of her. It was kinda weird being docked at the container terminal in Noumean because the Paul Gaugin was at the other dock. Not as nice an outlook as you come off the ship, with all the containers about. And quite a few of our shore tours were cancelled because there wasn't enough space for so many passengers from various vessels.

I didn't meet anyone named Marcel or Nat. There were so many young people on our cruise, and everyone seemed quite good looking - there were some very nice looking boys, and lots of skinny blondes about too.

What I did notice is the crew members seemed to be discouraged from interacting too much with the passengers. I mean they would be friendly and polite, but there wasn't really much socialisation outside hours. Pitty, I would have been up for some of that! :p
