Anthem Delay - the Latest

That's great! Enjoy the empty Anthem. Shouldn't be lines for anything! Would love a report/review afterwards from someone.

Just a note when buying alcohol while the ship is docked on Bayonne tonight, they'll be tax added to all beverages purchased. And of course the casino won't be open. But hopefully they have some drink specials tonight!

To confirm an earlier post, we are allowed to board at 3 pm today! Our hotel has graciously offered to let everyone out of tonight’s reservations. We will be boarding today and will finally get to unwind a bit. To both the negative and positive commenters here, thanks for your input. Whether you agree or disagree with what some of us have said about our situation, it does helping getting others perspective on things. My son (2 yo) has been extremely excited to see the big giraffe on the ship. Today is the day!

I am so happy that you will finally get to board this beautiful ship.  I just sailed on her last month for 22 days and it was wonderful.  The staff and crew are wonderful. I know they are going to try and make this sailing one to always remember.  Bon Voyage!

4354/4180 = 104% on the 1/5 Anthem sailing.

Kool, thanks. Was just shooting 2019 average. Yrs ago when I stated Cruising there just wasnt many 3/4/5 passenger cabins. Rare to even get close to 100% Double Occ. any but a Holiday sailing. Most time in 90's I'd Cruise over Labor Day & in Feb, quiet ship, empty Cabins every time. This before Royal became a Family Friendly Cruise Line

A look at boarding at 3:02 pm local time. Not nearly as busy as expected

That's actually more than I thought would be there at 3pm. Is the terminal staying open all night in case someone wants to check in late at night? How empty is the ship? Enjoy the cruise!

Boarding stays open tonight until 7 pm. It looks like they do have some activities planned, but I for sure will be skipping the Caribbean Band on the pool deck. There seems to be a good crowd of people so far, but noticeably less people than an average cruise. We went to see if we could get upgraded from our obstructed balcony to an unobstructed. They had people taking room numbers down for upgrade request so you wouldn’t have to wait in line. We aren’t expecting anything, so it was nice to get our name in the hat without a long wait.

Good luck on the upgrade!  That would be wonderful.

I am curious what type of health screening they are doing.  Are they just asking people how they feel?

Honestly, I think it's safer to cruise now than before because there should be less sick people boarding.

I am anxiously awaiting the results.  I am on the next cruise on Anthem.

I'm thinking that if any of the results would have come back positive for Corona, they would have had to quarantine the crew, thus the reason for delaying embarkation on this sailing.

Jedge is the OP. He is traveling (from Kansas) with his expectant wife and 2yo. He has been very good about coming back and sharing whatever information he has in a very timely fashion.

I'm sure it has been a very stressful few days for him. He did a good job posting.

Reading Jedge's posts I am sure it has been stressful and glad now things are looking positive for him and his family. I see you were also trying to assist him and without the need of self promoting or "educating" Jedge.

Apparently not everyone feels the same - https://nypost.com/2020/02/08/stranded-royal-caribbean-cruise-passengers-slam-liner-amid-coronavirus-scare/

The article seems to be sensationalized a bit...

I literally LAUGHED when I read this article.  Why are these people so upset that RC told them to use a search engine to find a hotel room??  Like no kidding??!!  How else would you find a hotel?  Also the Post pointed out that they're "packed for a week in the Caribbean..." but the guy is wearing a sweater in the photo.  Also NYC has clothing stores.  Just saying.  I swear I wonder how some people manage to leave their houses in the morning...

We were not screened at all. We were not asked any questions. But not sure how others may have been handled, especially if they looked sick... But who is deciding who looks sick? I dunno, but the process was seamless.

Maybe they figured that all of the sick people would have chosen the refund.

They probably didn’t have data on their UK phones, and quite possibly can’t drive. They certainly don’t know the area. Most people would probably also freak out a little if they arrived in a foreign country to find themselves in this kind of situation, especially if they’re not seasoned travelers.

We were simply asked if we have traveled to China in the last 14 days and if we have felt ill recently. Nothing more than that. This was done by the lady checking us in and taking our picture for our card. We were greeted on board with champagne (If you’ve followed from the beginning, yes my wife passed) and smiling faces. I’ve always admired the staff of cruise ships. These last few days have been trying for them as well, and here they are today making sure we still have a great trip.

I'm curious in a situation like this how they handle staffing the terminal/pier. With only the Anthem sailing in the winter, this can only be a part-time job for them as they only work one day a week. And now they have to work three days this week(Sunday, Monday & Saturday).

Any update from Captain or Cruise director as to how many are onboard? and how many canceled?

If they are not working the cruise ships they are probably working freight or one of the other cruise terminals in NY.
