If your flight is in late , stay in Houston .
if you are in early come to Galveston .
The island is a tourist destination that could be not miss extra vacation day in itself .

We have sailed out of this port twice.  We stay in Galveston to extend our vacation. Last time stayed at the Best Western (north) the day before the cruise. Nice breakfast included. The beach is across the street.  It was a warm Oct day and we had a very nice time on the beach before we boarded the ship. Our airport was Hobby.  Used Uber to get around, our schedule and did rely on transport services.  Have fun!

Thank you very much Kat! (and everyone who was kind enough to respond!)  These links are very much appreciated. We have pretty much decided to head to Galveston instead of staying in Houston. We land in Houston around 11am and will probably Uber to Galveston. We are considering staying at either the Holiday Inn Resort Galvestion - On The Beach or TownePlace Suites Galveston Island (although I am still looking at hotels). Rob

I echo this. I love spending time in Galveston as part of the vacation, and I look for opportunities to do so.
