Lojay2 Posted February 23, 2020 #1 Posted February 23, 2020 We just booked a Christmas cruise and are now looking at flights home.We will be docking in Fort Lauderdale. I can fly out of Fort Lauderdale but actual get better times if I book out of Miami. Question I have is what is the time slot I should look for booking out of either airport. I know some are going to suggest walking off but that is not a good option because there are small children involved and a lot of luggage. Thank you for your help

With small children either book with Celebrity or a private shuttle service. Lots easier. I would not book earlier. Too much stress. Ship could be a bit late. Customs take extra time to clear the ship. Weather could be anything from a hurricane to sunny. 1

If you want to use express luggage valet delivery, which I highly recommend especially with kids, I believe you must have a flight after noon. If however, you leave, for example from an airport that isn't at your cruise port- the time for express luggage valet delivery is later. Call the cruise line. Also, when you factor in cost of flights, the car service cost significantly more from another airport may make the costs about equal.

Thank you for your help Yesterday, they began calling out numbers at 8:10 am. With facial recognition, we just walked through the terminal out to transportation. As for times to book out of FLL, I would suggest around 11:30 at the earliest. I would also recommend Luggage Valet. Your flight has to depart after 11:30 am and before midnight that day. Southwest has a 6 pm cut off for departures.
Rare Jim_Iain Posted February 23, 2020 #5 Posted February 23, 2020 We always use Uber or Lyft. Conservatively if you plan an hour to get off ship, clear customs formality and get to FLL (if coming into FLL) and 1 1/2 hour if Miami (from FLL). You will then have to add on airport time to check in and security and minimum arrival time. Last cruise we had a late flight so stayed on until they had last call at 9:15 and were at the airport by 10:00 (fll-fll). Check in and Security time with PRE about 15 minutes.
JohninDC Posted February 23, 2020 #6 Posted February 23, 2020 UberXL or a van taxi from OR to FLL takes about 10+ minutes and will cost about $15-20. Taxi or UberXL from PE to MIA will take 45+ minutes and will cost about $70+. I agree with the above suggestions for flights after 11:00 or so from FLL and after noon-12:30+ for MIA.
