Where to stay pre-cruise in Newark/Bayonne port

What exact date do you need a room?  Hotel budget range? Number of people?  Bed size requirements?

What time does your flight arrive?  Some hotels offer free breakfast, but have no restaurants on site or nearby if you require dinner,

The airport hotels are about 11 miles from Cape Liberty.  Uber/Lyft has become the popular way to get there.

Most of the hotels mentioned by 138east; are in industrial area; so you would want a hotel that serves food; you don't have a car and there are not a lot of food choices by most of the hotels.  I have stayed at the Hilton and Marriott.  The Marriott is right at airport and has full service food options;  as does the Hilton.  Both offer airport shuttles and both are close.  However neither have restaurants nearby

We arrive about 3 p.m., Did find a Courtyard in Elizabeth just a few miles from the airport and 12 miles from the cruise terminal.  Looks like a good central location.  Any info on this hotel and area?

Courtyard Elizabeth is fine.  It is one of several hotels (Embassy Suites, Country Inns, Residence Inn) on International Blvd that are next to the Jersey Gardens Mall and numerous eateries (Ruby Tuesday’s, Applebee’s, Ihop, Johnny Rockets, and the mall food court).  No problems eating in this area.

We've stayed there, it's a decent hotel. There is a restaurant in the hotel for a quick bite along with a bar (so if having a  drink in the evening is your thing, it's easy). There is an IHOP not too far away for breakfast if you want something more than what's offered at the hotel restaurant (which is a bit on the expensive side with a small breakfast menu).

But the hotel was clean, staff were pleasant and the hotel itself was relatively quiet (especially compared to when we stayed at the Residence Inn in the same loop).
