Getting best exchange rate to use at casino?

Mexican casinos offer abysmal exchange rates.

Something like $1 US to 17 pesos.

The regular exchange rate is $1 to 19 pesos.

 

That's equivalent to a 10% fee!

 

So how best to get that $1 to 19 peso rate?

No cambio is going to exchange 1:19. Current rate on conversion calculators is a mid market rate, you won't get that any where. Even PayPal and Voom take a peso transaction fee. You might get 1:18, if lucky.

Ships are reasonable in exchange, still a small fee. Your hometown bank might exchange before you leave, but again a fee.

what cruise line exchanges foreign currency?

My understanding is that guest services on any cruise line will exchange dollars for local currency if available and requested.  Not sure of limits.  Never had to do this. No real need in Cozumel to exchange for pesos anyway.

I realize that on a large transaction of say $1000+ the" fees" can appear hefty.  But that's the nature of the beast.
