Travellers to Australia have to self-isolate for 14 days

Recommended Posts

Cruise ships from foreign ports have been banned from arriving in Australia for 30 days, and that will go forward on a rolling basis.

That's going to be a big problem for those cruises currently in NZ or in the South Pacific.

Yes I am confused particularly when they are coming home to comply with cruise companies pauses.  Does it mean if cruises that originated here are ok?

The cruise ships currently in NZ were permitted to finish their NZ cruise.  However, no new cruise ships were allowed to visit NZ.

Most of the people being tested positive for coronavirus have travelled from overseas.

Banning cruise ships for 30 days and announcing all people travelling from overseas must self isolate for 14 days is a good move to try to slow down the increase in the numbers of people being tested positive to the corona virus.

If the Golden proves positive where will it be quarantined. .?
I assume as it’s a Melb return cruise that most would be from there .

Tie it up somewhere on the Yarra, 😁

As flight crews will have to comply with the 14 day curfew, this effectively stops international travel in Australia.

Rumours around now that Australia will close its borders full stop to non citizens and non residents this week.  As for this self isolation, unenforceable, who is going to do it.  Many around now who should be in isolation, I bet.

Will Australian's cruising on board right now, returning from the South Pacific have to self quarantine?

Yes.  The bigger question is whether the ship will be allowed to dock in Australia in the first place.

It starts for arrivals after midnight tonight. There are people on planes right now who will arrive to a very difficult situation.

Ms Amsterdam due into Darwin tomorrow morning.  What will happen now? Will it be allowed to continue on to Perth where it is now planned to cut short its world cruise?

I'd expect Australians would be asked to disembark. The other passengers would stay onboard and the ship would depart Australian shores.

So where are all these ghost ships going to go for the next 30 days?

I am presuming they will be tied up at the nearest port to where they are ,or where they finish the present cruise

Ports with plenty of room ??

Tauranga, Fremantle, Sydney ,....White Bay..Newcastle......what others ?

Ships could also be double berthed ie side by side. , or held at anchor or at a buoy.

In Brisbane either at Portside or at the Fishermans Island Grain Terminal. However all ports charge fees. These wouldn't apply if they anchored, for instance in Moreton Bay (off Brisbane), but that would result in higher costs for supplies that had to be delivered to the ship.

Thank you.  We are on Viking Orion.  We missed Tasmania and Melbourne and were headed to disembark early in Sydney.  The captain just announced that we cannot dock in Sydney and are now headed for Melbourne.

What does that matter? We don't have a 'crazy' law like the American PVSA (sometimes called the Jones Act) that severely restricts passengers travelling between US ports.

On the other hand, the passengers will undoubtedly get their cruise fare refunded probably with extra benefits added.
