I just got the call from my boss at work. I was exposed last Tuesday night. Didn't feel a thing. I'm really careful, but there is an idiot that I have to work with that seems intent on spreading it all around the hospital. Might have to shank her...

Sitting together like Sardines in a can for hours, dealing with dozens of humans at the airport, sounds safe to me!

I just think it is really irresponsible to be travelling around all over the place these days. I guess for some people it is always about them.

Road trip! Personally I would absolutely not fly right now, because social distancing is impossible and people are getting stranded. We were supposed to sail out of NYC yesterday and it is cancelled, but we are still having a wonderful time. We spent 4 nights in Atlantic City and are now enjoying 5 nights in New York City. The Hilton Garden Inn Times Sq South was $50 tonight! These Manhattan rooms normally cost a fortune - never thought I’d be able to stay right here instead of out in the ‘burbs! If you want something warmer, I recommend Clearwater Beach in Florida - TripAdvisor’s number 1 beach in the US for the past 2 years - it’s in Tampa Bay (note: west coast of Florida - amazing beach sunsets!)

PS - even with all this traveling neither of us has gotten sick. We’re using sanitizer and washing hands a lot

I just cancelled all my reservations AirBnB, Car rental and Air for Treasure Island for late April. If FFL and Miami have closed public beaches it's only a matter of time before that area does.

And with many states closing Restaurants and Bars ,who's to say Florida won't. Hated doing it but it was the prudent thing to do.

Florida will probably get hit very hard with their elderly population. It is surprising that they aren't being more proactive.

100% Agree.

With major states New York, California shutting down bars/Restaurants and now Las Vegas (MGM properties) shutting operations down, it is shocking Florida hasn't yet. The only thing I've seen is FFL and Miami public beaches closed.

To all the people judging travelers, I would remind them you’re no safer at home unless you quarantine yourself inside your house. You don’t want to get it or spread it - are you staying out of the grocery store? Work? Church? The public street? Anyone who’s judging others better be self quarantining at home.

Churches in Seattle are closed. Most closed a couple of weeks ago. Bars, and restaurants are all closed. Schools are all closed. People are working from home. They ARE quarantining themselves. Seattle is like a ghost town.

Don't you understand this, or are you in denial? The thing is, travellers have an excellent chance of catching it, as you are deliberately exposing yourself.

Many people are forced too. Many workplaces instituted work from home policies. Where I live the churches are closed. Restaurants are closed. Bars are closed. Casinos are closed. Shopping malls are closed. So yes, people are essentially forced to quarantine themselves in their house because there's nowhere to go. The public street isn't an issue because it's relatively easy to keep your 6 ft social distancing. Grocery stores are essential to live so I don't categorize that with a leisure activity like vacation.

The governments impose quarantines because people are too stupid or ignorant to figure it out for themselves.

yes, yes, and yes. Public streets NO unless I hear otherwise I have not heard of risk taking a walk in the suburbs as long as you stay  away any humans.  (however if that really becomes a substantial risk that will be stopped as well)  In addition there are levels of risk - even though we are stocked up if we run out of food or medicine than we will go the grocery store only if things cant be delivered.   Being on an airplane or in an airport the statistical probability of you catching the virus and giving it to a loved one increases astronomically.   You cant control if someone sneezes on an aircraft, this virus boom goes airborne in a millisecond, you just sit there in your airplane seat and get the virus boomtown!!   Be part of the solution not the problem, help to flatten the curve.  BAN the ailrines NOW for all non essential travel.

I was a skeptic at first, however as more information becomes available, I asked myself if it was a wise choice to fly? Answer is pretty simple NO.

Why would I chance going to Florida and probably not be able to enjoy beach bars, going to restaurants. No they aren’t closed yet but the probably is there.

Wasting $$$$$$$$ isn’t high on the agenda to go somewhere and possibly not be able to get home without driving!

Being in one of those age brackets that increase  the odds and being diabetic makes the decision one hell of a lot easier.

My cruise is not until the end of August.  My flights to Rome are non-refundable, so I am going to hold out to the last minute and hope the world is open by then.  If not, then we will have way more problems than losing out on a vacation.

I don't know what airlines your flights are booked through, but I just had to cancel a non-refundable flight to NYC (was supposed to sail on the Bliss yesterday) and, while I couldn't get a refund, they did let me "bank" the cost of the flight to use as credit towards a new flight by the end of the year. Since I am supposed to cruise to Alaska on August 20th, I figure I can use that credit towards the cost of my flights to Seattle (*fingers crossed*). You should check with your airline....

Canada just closed its borders to non-citizans with 2 days notice. Don’t be so sure your alternate vacation country won’t do the same. We cancelled our land based Mexico trip hours before flying out. Airports are ghost towns except the arrivals hall from people trying to get home.

Here, fix that comment for you.  New Jersey's governor has ordered a daily 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. limited curfew, restricting non-essential and non-emergency travel, waivers for those in vital public services (police, fire & health care, etc.)

Sad to hear about that ... universal precautions wasn't adequate ?  Latest CDC guidance not calling for using N95 along with the full PPE set, unless ...  So, you will be staying out of your MC & won't be returning to duty until cleared by HR after recovering ... wish you a speedy one, an extended period to rest up and take care of yourself first, etc.

What the folks do not want to realize and recognize, is that community infections are real, in silent & ninja modes and gone undetected - it's not a short duration battle that the U.S. is fully prepared for, let alone winning that easily.

On a side note, Capital One bank in the NYC area just announced that 64 bank branches are now closed while 82 will remain open ... Chase & Citi hasn't announced anything yet.  Time to freshen up on mobile & online tele-banking.

My daughter rented a really gorgeous airbnb right on the beach.  It's about a 8 hour drive, but they don't have to fly and they don't have to really go out much once they get there.  They're just going to hang out on the beach and relax.

My family has a cottage in Canada by the Ocean. They will drive there like they do every year, that  most likely will be the Vacation of the year.

Thanks dude. I still get to go to work unless I spike a temp or start trying to hack up a lung. I started wearing a mask a couple of weeks ago, and my own N95's last week, so I'm hoping I'm OK, unless one of the window lickers that I work with have been licking door knobs.

I actually had two days off sick last week, as a staph infection that I picked up in a London hotel bathroom two years ago is back and trying to kill me again. Winning!

Yes, yes, yes and yes.

Everyone needs to do their part.

Most places are closed up here....exceptions for grocery stores, hospitals, and gas stations.

Plenty of time to hop on cruisecritic and judge others. Haha!

The reason CDC guidance not calling for N95 is because there is a shortage, not because it is safe. I guess as long as we have some protection that will have to do! Just received my N95 mask today, we are told to wear them for as long as we can because once they are gone, they are gone.

Just had a 50yo man come into work. At 3.00pm he was sitting up talking. At 5.00pm he was intubated with his eyes rolled back in his head. Sedated. On his way to the ICU now. Doesn't look good.

You can still buy N95's on Amazon. My wife ordered 20 friday for $180. Arrived yesterday.

That is the point. Self quarantine at home! Use the supplies they told you to buy weeks ago. Watch Netflix.  If you have to go to the grocery store, go at night, wipe the cart handle with a Clorox wipe, get in and get out.

From the virus? Thats a common response for someone who is not showing any symptoms? (I am assumming that he wasnt showing any symptoms since he was at work.). Is that an example of the norm for the virus?

The nursing home in Kirkland has reported people going from walking around, to being in hospital in a very bad way in just over an hour. We have seen quite a few others who were much the same, but that was before they started testing, so they could have had anything. It is nothing to take lightly though. He was 50, not an 80yo.

Ok. Hopefully he will recover and that can provide good info about younger, older adults if it is indeed due to the virus.  But, as you said, it could be something else as well.

I was reading a study in the Lancet today. 97% of patients that went onto a ventilator didn't survive. Another study had said 86%. This clearly isn't just the flu, and just because you aren't 80 doesn't mean you should be out licking door knobs. I fear that China may not have been entirely truthful with what they have been telling people.
