Radiance of the Seas

Just thought I would let you know that this is the view from Thirroul Beach NSW this afternoon.  A very unusual sight.  Not often that we see a cruise ship so close, let alone three of them.  They are classed as being at Port Kembla anchorage.  Thirroul is a northern suburb of Wollongong.  We’ll keep an eye out for more cruise ships and will keep you posted.

They could be a tourist attraction in the Illawarra.  'Go see the cruise ships going nowhere.'

Canberra residents have been asked to stay away from the south coast

Yes, I heard PM say that and I know how much people from Canberra like to get away to the Coast.

To see so many big cruise ships off the Coast would have been a once in a lifetime event (my lifetime anyway).

Just posted by the captain of the Amsterdam on his blog.

We are are now loading some fresh provisions and will depart Fremantle in 4 hours.  Destination?  Durban, South Africa for fuel and thence to Fort Lauderdale, a 35-day voyage.

A strange way to finish, after 50+ years at sea, during which time I have experienced many challenges and incidents and one thing is for sure, I will never forget this one.

Hi,  here is the view this afternoon from Thirroul beach.

The ships are anchored a bit further south off Fairy Meadow beach, but can still be viewed in the distance.

From left to right, the ships are Radiance of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas and Carnival Splendor.

Kiwi Kruzer or Kiwi_cruiser

Could you please follow Captain Jonathan and Amsterdam, returning home via South Africa to Fort Lauderdale, US?

I love Captain Jonathan's blog which gives a unique behind the scenes view of the work of a cruise captain.  This was to be his last cruise before his well earned retirement.  As he says, one he will never forget.
