Predict when cruising will start again post-Coronavirus

Just for a bit of fun post a prediction for when you think cruising will recommence in various regions. One point for each correct prediction, I'll keep a spreadsheet.

 

1. Australia/NZ/South Pacific

2. Asia out of Singapore

3. Japan

4. China 

5. Alaska

6. Caribbean

7. Mediterranean

8. Baltic

 

If you think of any I've missed let me know.

 

Hmmm! I'll have to think about this. 😄

Well I think later rather than sooner , I guess that it will take two years to return to anything near normality .

One of the huge deciding factors will be if the requirement for a medical certificate for the over 70's remains

If so many including myself will never cruise again

 

Would not like to divide the market geography its now a world market

As I got a cruises booked for the South Pacific to Fiji on the 23rd June 2020 on Princess, I will say sometime in May 2020 or early June 2020.

 

Alaska - As I got another cruise booked in Aug 2020 on Princess, I will say July or early Aug 2020.

Not all cruise lines require the medical certificate for over 70s. I understand that NCL does, but do any other cruise lines?

I am optimistic, but not as optimistic as you. 🙂

 

I think it will be Sept-Oct 2020 at least before life gets anywhere back to normal. One Australian medical expert said that he expects the peak of the virus to run until July and that he is "booking things" for November. Presumably he thinks things will be back to normal by then.

I thought most of the lines required something similar now????

It's a CLIA requirement. Royal were going to ban passengers aged 70+ as of today, until they cancelled all cruises completely. No medical letter, just a straight ban.

Hope I get extra points for following the correct format!

 

This is going to take a long time to pass. I'm booked for Antarctica/ Patagonian Fjords next March, 2021. Not sure if I'll be able to afford to go by then!

 

We'll all have lots of time to dream about our future cruises.

And RCI who also decided if you you have a chronic illness whatever age you couldn’t board.

Yes plus heart conditions. These conditions can be controlled very well and many would live good lives.

With a caveat to #1. I think cruises in Australian waters only will restart in June.

Long term I think the cruise industry are going to suffer tremendously.

By the time this is over we may not have any cruise lines left.

How long do you think a business can survive without customers?

On here we are all cruising fanatics, but make up a very small proportion of cruisers.

If you had never previously cruised, would you seriously think about boarding a ship knowing what has occurred since this outbreak began?

Weeks being kept prisoner in a cabin, many being insides with no natural light.

I love cruising, but from now on, if I ever do get back on a ship, it would only be if I can afford a balcony.

I really hope my doom and gloom is ill founded, but there are certainly rough seas ahead.

I know Alaska season is only May to Sept but not sure of the months the others operate so here is my guess

 

1. Aust/NZ/South Pacific - Jan 2021 with limited itineraries & ships that are here year round including one from Royal for the first time.

2. Asia - May 2021

3. Japan - March 2021

4. China - 2022 whichever month the season starts

5. Alaska - May 2021

6. Carribbean - May 2021

7. Mediterranean - 2022 whichever month the season starts

8. Baltic - 2022 whichever month the season starts

9. South America/Antarctica - May 2021
