Hi flopsy, sorry to hear you gave up cruising.  Think quite a few may also give up after all this. We were really looking forward to  cruising the Baltic from Newcastle but think these cruises will all be cancelled.

Hope people can keep us smiling on this thread, desperate for something to smile a out! Keep safe and well😊

And sadly the Baltics don't see, to be on the 2021 list of cruises. US expansion instead?

Marella planned to have no sailings from the UK in 2021, mainly because of tough new emission regulations in Norway which the ships could not meet?

Yes, if our Explorer 2 cruise on Aug 1st 2020 Iceland and Norway bites the dust, it will be our last chance to sail these parts with Marella. Seems that Norway is banning toxic heavy oil (HFO).

One of the few ships that burn Liquefied Natural Gas is the 2 year old Aidanova :-

We've got our beady eyes Arcadia cruise J112, Norway, Iceland etc out of Southampton for 23 nights from 24th August 2021. The ship is only 5 years old and seems to have avoided Norway's tough new regs you mention.

That looks interesting😏 would be our first away from Marella.

We've done 4 Marella, 2 Costa and 1 P&O (Azura). We like these medium sized ships. Costa's entertainment department is abysmal but makes up for it, in the food area.

I didn't realise that P & O had replaced Arcadia I thought the old girl was still cruising on adult only

It's still with P&O and the "old girl" is just 5 years old, as mentioned earlier 😄

Yes Dave but launched in 2004 according to Google and certainly not 5 yrs old as Bertie Doe had claimed

Hope you're enjoying this lovely weather which seems to be keeping everyone's spirits up here in Huddersfield God knows how we'll all feel when the miserable cloud and rain inevitably comes - possibly snow Had it before in April Had it at Spring Bank in 1975!!!

Keep safe and keep smiling everyone

Not just sure on that one Dave ,the next phase of the Norway regulations is not till 2022 (2021 is still the same as 2020) , the implementation of the zero emissions regs are not till 2026 , ships such as Arcadia are in exactly the same position as the Marella fleet so would be no reason for Marella to pull out in 2021 based on emissions

Thanks for the 'heads-up' on whether Arcadia could sail there or not. If Norway's regs are going to get tougher, there is a slight sense of urgency, as we haven't been to Norway before. The Arcadia cruise on the 4th Aug 2021 is a bit more expensive than the Explorer 2 cruise of 1st Aug 2020 but it's a week longer and does include extra Norwegian ports.

I know there are a few new LPG powered ships coming into service but these are quite large ships. Not everyone leaves when the ship docks but 3000+ peeps could overwhelm some small ports 😱
