If you ever happen to be in Berlin on the museum island I highly recommend a visit to the Pergamon Museum.

Oh yes - it is spectacular!!!

Is the altar available for viewing yet? It was open on our first visit but closed on our last visit.

Thanks - I actually found my answer via Google. 😏

The hall containing the Pergamon Altar is still undergoing renovations and will remain closed until 2023.

Do try and visit and see it.  We were lucky enough to be there in January 2014.  It was magnificent, as was the entire museum, probably one of the best museums I have seen.

Mainz, old town on the Rhine, Mogontiacum to the Romans, is famous for its cathedral, its carnival tradition and a typical stop for river cruise ships. Much liked is the excursion to the Gutenberg Museum. SWR, the regional television channel, has put together a virtual 360 degrees tour of Mainz with typical stops along the way and a tourist guide adding audio in German, if one wishes to listen. A nice bit of text easy to put through a translation program. Choose your stops from the list at the bottom of the page: https://www.swrfernsehen.de/landesschau-rp/specials/article-swr-5088~_detailPage-1_-dc56264c3eed6f7453c3f263012a8308a11ab691.html

I agree - the Pergamon is absolutely fantastic, especially if one is interested in ancient architecture. We found the Altar, Ishtar Gate, Market Gate of Miletus, & the Meissner fragment (from the Epic of Gilgamesh) absolutely amazing. During our first two visits the Pergamon altar was available for viewing but during our most recent visit, the hall containing the altar was under renovation (scheduled to reopen in 2023). We hope to visit again during our next visit to Berlin.

Drachenburg Castle, that is Schloss Drachenburg in Königswinter on the Rhine, have upgraded their 3D virtual tour. Here is the website: https://www.schloss-drachenburg.de/index.php/de/info/entdeckertour/virtuelle-schlosstour

The 19th century building stands on the Drachenfels hill and is an excursion on Emerald Waterways and Scenic. German cruise lines also visit it.

Frankfurt has been given back its old town during a reconstruction project of several years, completed in 2018. This is a virtual tour starting on the famous square called "Römer": https://www.deutschland.de/sites/default/files/altstadt-360/index.html

The music lover that she is, dogs4fun had us guess the photo of the Liszt Academy in Budapest in our game in the absence of river cruising. Here is a virtual tour of this stunning Art Nouveau building: http://virtualistura.zeneakademia.hu/?_ga=2.1645234.267740207.1602761889-1130794504.1602761889
