Americans, how long until you received your refund?

Also I applied for a refund yesterday on our cancelled June cruise with Celebrity.  I received an immediate response that said we would receive credit back on our credit card in 30-45 days.  We will see if they are good for their word.  If so they have a leg up on MSC for my repeat business.  Day 74 with MSC.

Well, we now know that we  are out over $5600 for our March10 & 13 Divina cruises. We cancelled on 3/10 and the new assurance policy went into effect on 3/14!!  We didn't even try to board since they were asking for medical letter and we were already in Florida to board.  We most likely would have been denied boarding, considering hubby's heart and diabetic conditions. Also, we are 78 & 81 so 2 strikes against us.  Needless to say, this sure does leave a sour taste for MSC.  Hoping for refunds on an April casino cruise and 2 cruises in May that were paid in full.

That was definitely a time of confusion, with MSC first banning Chinese passport holders and travelers through certain areas, then banning Italians, then adopting CLIA's doctor's note for 70+ people before finally allowing people to cancel for  FCC.  I assume they wanted you to attempt to board and be turned away for not having the doctor's health form, is that what MSC said you needed to have done to get a FCC or refund?  I'm now even more disappointed with MSC that someone with your company history and connections could not get a better resolution than losing all your money.

No, they didn't convey any message directly to us regarding the health form, we chose not to present ourselves at the port and then be denied boarding for not having one.  They had issued this restriction/rule just prior to our 3/10 boarding.  I don't think loyalty has any sway with MSC at this point.  I may take it up with upper management but I'm not holding my breath on any response.  We will definitely be considering whether to cruise again at all, much less with MSC.  We still have Nov. 2020 & 2021 booked with only deposits at this point and I will not be giving them any more of my money till I see refunds.  Plus our travel insurance is usually over $1000 because of our ages. That's not included in the amount I quoted.

My credit from MSC that appeared and then dropped off is now back again.  Dated May 19 which was the original date.  I do not know why they just didn't tell me it would be done today when speaking to me yesterday.  Well maybe I really have the full credit now.

This was really a bad way for MSC to handle refunds.  It is a bad situation and they are making it way worse.  Cash flow problems or not they are going to need to refund the money.  They have no revenue  coming in so they either have the money for refunds or they don't.  I can't believe they are receiving many deposits for new cruises and if they are getting any it is probably only $99.

@Rob-Bob I’m glad you have your money also.  What an unnecessarily stressful situation. MSC could’ve handled it better for sure.  If we ever go back to cruising, I don’t know if we’ll give them a shot. This was supposed to be our first MSC cruise.

Latest update on my refund in 2 parts:

1.  Our final payment that showed "pending" last Monday and then disappeared last Friday.  Chase said to contact the vendor on why they pulled it back, so I e-mailed Sales Services to ask why they pulled it back.  Here's the response I got:

"Good day, Our Accounting department advised us this is a verification process the banks are doing for some reason. The amount appears back in your account after about 5-7 business days. Thank you for your patience."

2. Our initial deposit was on our Capital One card last August. Well, that just showed up about an hour ago on our account as "pending." So That's new.

With this new update, I'm now adjusting my plan to dispute the charges this week with I'll wait another week as it seems to be progressing

I submitted my request for full refund back on March 14 (April 18 sail date), 76 days later I now see two pending refunds on my credit card, the deposit and final payment, all there. If and when they post, or get removed, I'll update again. Hopefully this is the start of a lot of refunds for people on here.

Well, looks like MSC's accounting dept was correct.  As of this morning, May 29th, both my deposit and my final payment have posted on both my credit cards and the account balances reflect the new amounts.

What a journey in frustration, but these are different times, are they not?

I just checked my VISA and happy to report that both my down payment and final payments were credited back to my card, oddly the date of these transactions shows as 19 May?. They aren't in the "pending" column they are in "transactions" and the balance has been changed. **Note** we are Canadians that booked through the US site (we lost $30 on the exchange conversion but we can live with that). On another note I called Delta Airlines Wed to request a full refund for our flights instead of Ecredits and Bam the money was refunded the next day.

Cancelled my Royal Caribbean Canada/New England cruise on March 15th,  in addition individually cancelled the add ones purchased. During April received add on monies requested. In early May received a refund of taxes relative to cruise. Finally today, May 29th received cruise refund. So it took a total of 79 days to receive my refund.

Looks like those that applied for refund on 3/15 are receiving money dated 5/19 (although posted later 5/28 or5/29).  Some showed up on 5/19 and disappeared 3 or 4 days later and then reappeared on 5/28 or 5/29.

Looks like they are really happening so those applying in late March should start seeing their money if it continues like it started.  Good luck all.  Hope to see you on a cruise one day and we can reminisce over a cocktail!

And just like that my full refund has now posted to my account. Glad to see others finally reporting the same. Hopefully this is the end for a lot of waiting for you all.

Applied for refund March 14

Original sail date: April 4th

Disputed charge with American Express on May 21

Received notice today (May 30th) that MSC will apply a credit on June 5th statement. Not sure if the message is from MSC themselves or American Express. I'm also unsure if that means ON June 5th or sometime during the June 5th billing cycle. Very strange. I'm not removing the dispute until I actually see the money has cleared.

Original sail date: May 9, 2020 on Seaside

Applied for refund: April 1, 2020 (was told refund will be processed 60 days from refund request)

Cruise deposit refunded to AMEX: May 29, 2020 (close to 60 days since applying for refund)

Cruise fare pending on CHASE: May 29, 2020 (hoping it will finalize soon)

I originally booked with travelocity. Seems like I lucked out and actually got my refund within 60d of refund request.

I DID NOT request any charge backs with either of the CC companies.

I canceled my Oct '20 Med sailing on 4/20 and was told it would be 60 days.  I called today just to check status.  Zero hold time and the rep said they are now working on those bookings canceled in March/April.  I'll follow up again with them once it reaches 60 days.

You mind sharing which number you used?

We are at 74 days.  Another day....not another dollar.

On day 79 and nothing from MSC. Not sure we’d go back to MSC cause of this. I’m reasonable but feel we are being taken advantage of by MSC. No reason for this length for a refund.
