How do I block pop ups?

Every time I click on a link to open a topic, a pop up appears showing me part of the first post and an option to see the most recent post. I find it annoying. I want to go directly to the actual  thread, not the pop up. 
 

How can I stop this pop up from appearing every single time I open a topic?

To go to the first unread post click on the blue dot/star left of the link.

 

To go to the last post click on the list count, right of the link.

 

Click on the date / elapsed time right of the link to take you to that post.

I already knew about clicking on the blue star to get to the first unread post and the list count to get to the last post. I’ll experiment with the date/elapsed time to the right of the link and see if that works. 
 

Meanwhile, I did find that clicking on the blue dot that indicates an unread post will open the thread right at the beginning for me. That’s fine so long as the thread has not been previously been opened by me.
 

I’ve always just clicked on the thread title to open a thread without the pop up appearing. I guess I should just get over being so annoyed about the pops that others may find useful. Definitely a first world problem.

On pc a popup used to happen when the cursor hovered over the title. I found the behavior sparodic. Since I don't use a pc for cc now I don't know if the feature has been tweaked.

On my laptop the preview feature (partial view of first post with option for latest post) only opens for me if I hover over a thread title.  Once I click the thread title it will take me to the first post on the thread.  To get to the the first unread post, I click on the dot/star at the front of thread title.
