Serious Question: Cruisers will you continue?

We have a cruise booked on the Mardi Gras for Feb, 2021.  The only thing keeping us off of that ship is if they still have the over 70 Doctor's OK to cruise.  We are both over 70 and doubt seriously if our doctor would sign one.

When they said an announcement last Friday,  I thought about what we would do for our September Legend Cruise. When the Monday announcement didn't include the Legend, I had a replacement cruise for 2021 already on hold. I ended up putting down the deposit Monday night because.. September is really far away and who knows what would happen. 

 

That being said... September is REALLY far away. That also being said.. I booked my airfare to Italy in December.... So as of right now, not only are we will cruising, but I am also in the planning stages of a 22 day Europe land trip in case my airfare doesn't get canceled and we are stuck with it. I can't change my vacation days, we bid the year before for them.  If airfare get canceled I will worry about that later at this point. 

 

I am not going to stop traveling and cruising. It is what I go to work for everyday.

Say the word and I'm there. I was on one the second week of March. You could never tell this was going on. It's going to be a while, and an interesting journey though.

I went ahead and tried to book a quick 5 day cruise from a port We could drive to. The cruise plus the tax and fees came in at just South of $1000.00.  Not bad I thought.  As I went through the process it ended up that Carnival wanted a $600.00 deposit, more than half the price of the cruise.  They are already sitting on over $5,000.00 of my money from a canceled cruise that I might never see.  I think I'm done with them for now!

Imagine a world where the Lido deck is you being served by people. Then imagine how long those service lines will be. That will start to ruin the fun of grabbing a quick lunch then laying out. Then imagine in 2020, the guy or woman next to you coughs or looks like hell. (It happens every cruise) Will you start to wonder? IF my Panorama September cruise is cancelled, I will take a cash refund. I will not tie up any more money in Carnival if this September's cruise is cancelled, because I will be very worried that Carnival will be seeking protection from its creditors and my money will disappear. Don't get me wrong, Carnival will be back, buy declaring Chapter 11 allows them to keep all your money will they reorganize to start back up. I believe this is very plausible. I worked for a corporation of 14,000 people and lost severance and pension for the exact same reason. The company is going fine today.....I lost 10's of thousands of dollars. So my final answer is that I will take my 18th cruise someday, not sure if it will be in 2020 and it will be with caution.

We'll absolutely cruise. We currently have one booked for May 31st that we'll go on, as long as they cruise. If they cancel that one, then we'll hop on a ship the moment they resume sailing.

other cruises lines already do this. i read that Holland American does this on some of their ships

It might be awhile before we cruise again. It's just a wait and see right now, but cruise ships are getting a terrible rap. Fingers crossed it goes back to normal, but that may take a long time. imo

Yes, as I'm already booked for a cruise in 2021. However, this forum is not the best window into future cruise numbers as we wouldn't be here unless we weren't already passionate about cruising. Instead it's the folks that comprise most of the cruise passengers that aren't here and may only take 1-2 cruises in a life that will determine what the cruise industry looks like going forward.

They went to this on our March NCL cruise.  It takes a lot of extra crew to do this as each station needs to be manned.  It really wasn't a bother to us but some passengers were upset about how long it was taking sometimes.

This too shall pass. After 9/11 I remember so many saying they would never fly again (both because of the actual event or because of the additional security measures) yet, flying returned. Remember Zika where so many cancelled? This virus will pass and a vaccine will be developed and we will all move forward. IMO Cruises are and will be a great vacation for many people and will not disappear, just be on hold until safety issues can be addressed.

Keeping in mind, I'm in NYC and only cruise out of NYC (I assume everyone knows our statistics) my July Radiance cruise was canceled (no surprise) due to the ship not being ready.  I had a casino rate so my "non-refundable deposit" was only $100.  I immediately booked an Oct cruise using the FCC as a deposit.  Final payment isn't until July.

I will cruise again...but I don't expect the Oct cruise to happen (there's no way I'd come here) unless things get a lot better.  I'll decide about that specific sailing when the time comes.  If it goes...I go with it.

The way I see it...being a cancer survivor....I'm on borrowed time.  I don't want to put off something I can do today because who knows if they'll be a tomorrow.

When I saw that you are from New York, I completely understood just how sad you must be feeling.  My heart goes out to all those affected by the situation we are in, but I hurt more for people living in the hard hit areas and especially those in New York.  I can't imagine what all of you are going through and I just wanted to say that my thoughts are with you and will be over these next few weeks.  Stay healthy, stay strong and know that those of us in less affected areas (I'm in central Florida and FINALLY the governor has seen the light) are with you in spirit.

Of course I’ll cruise again! I have two already booked, but the next one isn’t until February 2021. It just worked out that way, but I’m glad that I have 10 months to go to give the current situation some time to rectify itself. 

 

In my opinion, you’re not going to get objective answers to your question right now. A lot of people are currently negatively biased because we are in the middle of this pandemic. They will say “I’ll never cruise again, fly again, go to a restaurant again, stay at a hotel again, go anywhere again, etc”. But I believe that as soon as we are on the other side of the curve, businesses start opening up again, and people start returning to a sense of normalcy, the “never again” thoughts will gradually fade away. It’s human nature. 
 

As an example, I caught Norovirus on a Carnival cruise back in 2011. At the time, while I sat in my cabin curled up in pain, I categorically said I would never ever cruise again and expose myself to getting sick like that. By the time I started feeling better and the memories of my illness started fading away, I was already planning my next cruise. 😂

If my mother caught this virus it would probably kill her and we are not taking any chances.  Of course we want to "live our lives" but that means not dying!  When the virus is under control with a vaccine we will be back to traveling.

My cruise amounts were virtually identical. Same ship, same month, same cabin. All I meant was I don’t know if it’s safer to just skip the future  $600 onboard and take my full cash refund. Then if things seem ok next year rebook.  FCC won’t be any good to me if the ships aren’t sailing. So many people are ill and this is really more important so I’m just trying to figure out if the FCC deal is worth it or not in reality.

I will cruise again again and again. It's the best vacation out there. I currently have a cruise booked for June 28th so as long as its sailing we will be on board!

I had a cruise booked for May 23 and just changed it to July 25, 2020.  If the ship cruises, we're there.  If it is canceled, I just take the refund and wait until sometime next year (if we decide to cruise then, as we had previously decided to do a land vacation for our summer 2021 trip).

We just used our PVP to book 2 cruises yesterday. We don’t expect to sail any time this year to allow time for all of this to pass, but we are eagerly awaiting our cruises in 2021 and 2022!

Agree with you as well... the last thing I would want is to be stuck on a ship for an undetermined amount of time as well. Our last cruise was 16 nights with mostly sea days. By day 10, I was ready to disembark — and that’s with free reign of the ship.
