Sunshine3601 Posted July 25, 2022 #65626 Share Posted July 25, 2022 Heat wave continues. Storms expected tonight with cold front behind. Our AC is now having issues. It's running but hardly feel cool air coming out of the vents. Late afternoon/early evening we went from a comfortable 72 to 81 f in the house. Set up fans last night. Called hvac guy this morning, waiting for call back. Fingers crossed it is an easy fix.

I received every piece and have a complete set of my Noritake Southern Lace. Then when my father took sick and moved in with us in 1995 I bought a new display cabinet for my moms set of china. Her set is complete minus one coffee cup, that broke in the 60's' Then The DH's mother passed away and we inherited her complete set of china and china case. Yup that makes three so far, but not done yet. My DH Uncle who passed away about 2 years ago, traveled Europe and when he went to Germany just out of college he purchased and sent home to his mom a complete set of China in the 1950's before the Wall went up. His set is unbelievably stunning. It is complete and a very beautiful pattern. It is properly displayed and I will post a picture of it soon. I cannot post pictures on computer, no clue how to do.. I will do from phone. So with 4 sets I usually end up setting the table with one of them at least once a month. I pull out the Waterford glasses as well as linen napkins in rings (display only I also place paper napkins). As far as clean up goes. There is no problem there. We have an understanding in our house. We are a team We share our duties For example when I cook. He cleans and puts everything away As far as emptying the dishwasher, not a problem none of the china dinner ware goes in it, they are all hand washed. Besides I enlightened him, that yes I will cook, and he kindly will clean up, and any time he would like to change rolls.................bring it on. So in 30 years, 49 weeks since we were married, he has never offered to change our arrangement. Oh, he can cook, well kinda sorta. He plays with food on the grill (after I get it ready), if you call that cooking. Paper plates. Oh yea, I love paper plates and probably have over 25 unopened dinner plates still in wrapper, I have so many different styles and prints.................. and silver ware with the napkin around the plastic ware. GFS has the neatest strongest type, When we have summer parties (picnics) we use it all the time. Take care I can't wait to see the picture of the china. I love the old dishes and my china hutch has plates from his family and mine. One is dated 1909. Unfortunately the only full set we inherited is from my mother and is just plain with a platinum ring. Not what I would pick but it is what it is. The silverware is a combination from my mother and grandmother and I like it and have added a few pieces over the year. The crystal is my mother's and while nice is just plain. I only pull the china, silverware and crystal out a few times a year. I would use it more if I liked it better. My favorite is my Christmas set that I use in November, December, January and February.

My clarification was for taking a post, pulling out a couple of passages and answering them individually. Some folks are very adept at that skill But you kinda need a mouse to do that efficiently

My twins were in band for 7 years and we volunteered for everything from pre game dinners, driving to competitions, band camp and at the end of football season just hoping the team would lose because we were tired and just wanted it to be done. Of course in reality we were never done. Concerts, more competitions and private lessons were year round. Both of our girls did very well, but for one it was more social, while the other was ranked #2 in the state and was approached by a few colleges. She turned it all down to become a child life specialist at a children's hospital. She is at a training center this week to pick up her new facility dog that will work with her at the hospital. I am really impressed by marching bands. My daughters were into dance, not band, so I didn't know much about it. My nephew was in band at a high school outside of Detroit that had one of the best band programs in Michigan. We drove to the University of Toledo to see him compete and I was blown away by what high school kids could do. The combination of musical talent and the ability to march in formation, especially when done at a high level, was fantastic. Once you've seen The Best Damn Band in the Land perform at Ohio Stadium though, nothing else compares. 😉 Go Bucks!

Providing there's not a major leak in the system, a simple recharge should do the trick.

I especially enjoyed the competitions to see all the complex routines they could do. I also loved the drum lines even though he played the trombone.

Rare bobmacliberty Posted July 25, 2022 #65635 Share Posted July 25, 2022 Fine China always seemed like a waste of money to me. We registered for china and cutlery as wedding gifts, like I'm sure everyone else at the time did. It was expensive enough that some people would give a complete single setting, while others would give part of a setting. I remember that we needed to spend some of our own money to complete a 12-person set. I would much rather have spent that money elsewhere. We used that china twice a year at most...Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don't think we ever used all 12 settings at the same time. A few things have broken over time and we're currently at about 10.5 settings. We also needed to buy a fancy looking china cabinet to display our unused china in our fancy looking unused dining room. We still have that china protectively wrapped and stored somewhere. Sigh.

derorim Posted July 25, 2022 #65637 Share Posted July 25, 2022 I have a set of china from my first marriage, and I no longer use it. However, one day I decided it was worthy of a tea party with my granddaughter, complete with my mom's silver tea service, on the living room floor. She served catnip mouse soup and cinnamon pine cone stew.

ownedbypets Posted July 25, 2022 #65639 Share Posted July 25, 2022 I inherited 3 complete sets, for 24, of china, along with sets of silver. It all has to be hand washed and polished so it never gets used. I have terrible memories of spending hours polishing the silver before the holidays. I also have 3 kids so of course each of them was to get a set but none of them want it. Maybe they will change their minds as they are still young. If not, I will sell it and enjoy a nice vacation!

Surprised it didn’t wake our grandson up. And speaking of storms, we drove through some pretty intense ones yesterday on our way home from Titusville. We passed one mobile home park where a large tree came down across a couple of them. The one looked like a hot knife through butter, because it crushed the width of the tree, all the way to the floor. Unfortunately, I read this morning that someone lost their life.
