spw1947 Posted April 4, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2020 Viking Orion arrived in Melbourne Australia on March 15 and as no Covid on board all 700+ passengers disembarked safely. Great work Viking. However it is a mystery why she is still in Port Phillip Bay and seems to charge position every few days? Can anyone shed light on this? We enjoyed a cruise on board this great ship in December 2019 from Bali to Sydney.
Rare BluebonnetTexan Posted April 4, 2020 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2020 My guess is that since Orion was scheduled to go to Alaska, and those cruises are looking very unlikely for this summer, that Viking hasn’t decided yet where to send her to position for the most likely next future cruise. spw1947 Posted April 4, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted April 4, 2020 That could be so, Feels odd to know that the wonderful crew are out there more or less stranded. However sure that Viking will look after them
Nippy Sweetie Posted April 4, 2020 #4 Share Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) We were due on an Alaska cruise on Orion in July and looking forward to being aboard. Oh well. Another time maybe. Edited April 4, 2020 by Nippy Sweetie

Another time maybe. We are also booked on the Orion in July. Specifically the July 25 sailing. Haven't received any notice of cancellation yet. Trying to remain positive that somehow we will still be going, but it doesn't look promising.

I really can't see it going ahead. We were to have done the 7 day Rockies trip first. I'm going to phone on Monday. Final payment not due till next month but I want to clarify the situation as far as possible. Edited April 4, 2020 by Nippy Sweetie
duquephart Posted April 4, 2020 #7 Share Posted April 4, 2020 It would make sense to not move the ship if it's not going to be used. Viking would seem to be anticipating here.
spw1947 Posted April 13, 2020 Author #8 Share Posted April 13, 2020 Where is she now? We saw her at Station Pier a few days ago, but she's not off Point Gellibrand now.
Peregrina651 Posted April 13, 2020 #9 Share Posted April 13, 2020 She has been underway for a few days, heading west from Melbourne. As of this morning:
