OSJ: 12 hours, what to do?

Our cruise is docked in OSJ from 10AM to 10PM. We plan on doing the self walking tour and researching what we really want to see. From what I gather, this will be about 4 hours including a good lunch and cocktail break. That leaves another 8 hours. Initial thinking and we have months to figure it out, is we could head back to the ship for a few hours, grab a bite and drinks, then back into OSJ for sunset and bars or something.

Anyone have any suggestions on things to do or plans for this much time? I will be doing a lot more research now that we have changed our cruise. We have 7 months to figure it all out.

Look into the bio luminance kayak tour.

Also a sunset sail out of San Juan.

Or after your walking tour, closer to sunset, grab a taxi to Condado or Isla Vista and have drinks and dinner on the beach. Oceano, Wakiki, Alambique  are some to look for.

If you'd rather stay in Old San Juan. Punto de Vista on the roof of the Hotel  Milano is a great spot. But also check out the Paseo de la Princessa during your walking tour. Worth a return for the sunset view. Music, street vendors .

I personally would skip the bio-luminescent tour.  With only 12 hours in port, I would spend my time doing something else.  Do you plan on touring both forts?  Have you thought about renting a car and driving to see the rainforest at El Yunque?  If you are very adventurous the Toro Verde adventure park has some of the longest and fastest zip lines in the world.

It is my wife's first time on a vacation not at a resort. That is mostly do to a medical condition. We need to be able to be near AC if necessary or at least a well shaded area. I do not think we would be doing any walking tours in the rain forest unfortunately. At least through the towns she can get in shade, stop at a hotel or restaurant, etc. I want to be able to go on more, so insuring she doesn't have an insulin episode is key.
