Which itinerary would you chose (Breeze vs Radiance)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I am having a hard time choosing and would love some input between these itineraries.  I am not too picky on the ship, but more so the ports.  I usually like an itinerary that allows for 1 nice beach day (not too crowded), 1 port for good snorkeling and 1 port with some type of adventure excursion.  We are not too big on shopping.  We do enjoy trying local cuisine and booking excursions with local companies.  We are looking at something for April 2021 as this would be an anniversary cruise.

BREEZE or RADIANCE

St Maarten

St Kitts

San Juan

Grand Turk

RADIANCE

Aruba

Grand Turk

Curacao

BREEZE

Half Moon Cay

Grand Turk

Bonaire

Aruba

We have been to Half Moon Cay (always happy to revisit) and Grand Turk (wouldn't mind visiting again), but all the others would be new to us.

What would you choose?

I pick Breeze because it is the same itinerary I hope to be going on on the Magic.  Everyone loves the Breeze and i think it gives you your beach days, snorkel days, and adventure day.

2nd choice Radiance to Aruba.

I am in the minority, but I felt like St. Kitts was one and done. We also did not have the amazing time that most seem to have in St. Maarten.  Many will disagree with that.

I vote for the Breeze

HMC

Grand Turk

Bonaire

Aruba

ive never been to Bonaire before, that’s why I’d pick it. I always try to find a cruise where there is at least one port I have never been to yet. Also, I sailed the Breeze back in 2014 when she was new and I love that ship.  Have fun on whichever cruise you choose.

We are on the 8 day Breeze to HMC, Grand Turk, Bonaire and Aruba in April. We are beach people and this just seems like a great beach itinerary.

I’d pick Breeze or Radiance option. I love old San Juan and I’d prefer Old San Juan over Aruba. San Martin and Grand Turk beaches are also pretty.  We did ziplining at St Kitts and had a great time.

I think you should research a bit further to see if one of the itineraries with a stop at Aruba or Curacao will have an extended time at port (departing at 10:00pm) there. I have seen an excursion listed on one of those islands for a romantic sunset dinner cruise since you mentioned it was for your anniversary. I would love to experience that!!!

I would pick the third option, the Breeze, primarily because of Bonaire.  We like to snorkel, and the island "little Bonaire" has some of the best snorkeling we have done.  All of these itineraries are great, although we have never been to HMC.

Is it Half Moon Cay that sometimes gets missed due to wind? I can’t remember if that was the port or not- I might have read about it here, but if so I wouldn’t choose based solely on that being one of the options. That said, Eagle Beach at Aruba was so dreamy- the most perfect beach day!!! We would go again. We also really enjoyed Curaçao! We didn’t go to the beach there though- so I have no review of that, but the town was fantastic! We too like to choose an itinerary that takes us to at least one new place- PR and St. Thomas will be our next (and a return to Grand Turk). We were supposed to sail a 9 day Journeys cruise out of NYC in June on the Radiance, but obviously canceled. We rescheduled for next June on Breeze’s sister ship- the Magic. I was looking forward to sailing the “new” Radiance, but feel the Dream ships are probably a better fit for us (I do like the Vista ships and really thought I would miss the aft pool on the Radiance- which the Magic has). That said, I know you said itinerary is more important than ship! I would definitely get to Aruba!!!

I'd be happy with either of these two options but I think I'd give the edge to the Radiance because I love sea days.

Since I'm booked on the Breeze for December on the St. Kitts, St. Maarten itinerary, I'm going to have to go with that one.  I haven't been on the Breeze yet, but I've been on the Dream and I really like that class of ship.  In addition, the Breeze gets a lot of rave reviews, she certainly has her fans 😄

I chose this itinerary because 1. it was an 8 day, which is my favorite so far, 2.  The ports all offered a good choice of activities, and 3.  I've wanted to sail the Breeze for a while now.

Breeze to Aruba, Bonaire, Grand Turk and Half Moon. Bonaire is considered on of the best for diving. We did a snorkel tour with Woodwind Bonaire. Turn right off the boat and its a short walk to the resort where their shop is. Rent a golf cart at Grand Turk and explore the many uncrowded Beach areas or head to Jacks Shack for the day. If you miss Half Moon you still have Grand Turk. Aruba I prefer Arashi Beach. Has chairs for rent, bathroom and a beach bar. Less crowded than the ever popular Eagle Beach.

Normally when people post this type of question, I can pick one itinerary easily, but there’s something about each one of these that I like.

- In Aruba, we rented a Jeep and drove ourselves around the island, even down some off the beaten path roads. From the California Lighthouse to Guadirikiri Caves, and a beach stop at Eagle Beach. We had a fantastic adventure day.

- San Juan, in my humble opinion, is one of the most unique and diverse ports in the Caribbean and well worth a visit. In a region where many attractions seem similar from one destination to another, San Juan offers something for everybody. From the colonial architecture of Old San Juan with its cobblestone streets, 16th century Cathedrals and Forts, it’s a history buff’s dream. There are also caverns, beaches, the rainforest, rum distilleries, the modern part of the city with high rise resorts and casinos, as well as fantastic shopping and world class restaurants. There’s even a bioluminescent bay (where you can kayak down mangroves at night and the water glows around you). With that said, check your itinerary to see how much time you actually have in port. With so much to do, you want an itinerary that allows you enough time to explore. Several itineraries tend to give you only half a day in San Juan, or even worse, a night time stop when many places are closed. Best port time I’ve ever had in San Juan was from 8:00am until 2:00am, a full 18 hours to explore both during the day and night.

Grand Turk wouldn’t influence my decision much. While we had a great day there, I had a hard time finding something that was unique to this destination. It felt like another day at a any cruise line developed destination.

I loved Half Moon Cay, and it truly has one of the best beaches I’ve ever visited at a private island, but I’m someone who always looks for new destinations that I haven’t visited before, so it wouldn’t sway my decision.

I’d pick between the two Breeze itineraries, with a slight edge to the St Maarten, St Kitts, San Juan itinerary, but I’d be happy with either one.

Definitely would choose the Breeze over the Radiance.  I would choose this itinerary simply because I haven't been to St. Maarten or S. Kitts.
