Radiioman46 Posted April 22, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2020 If you're the captain of a cruise ship: Circumstances: 1 - Your ship has 800 crew members and no passengers. 2 - Your sitting at anchorage waiting for orders 3 - All of your 800 crew members have been tested negatively for Covid19 Would you enforce social distancing, wearing of masks, and other protections, among your crew? Or, would you allow your crew members to behave like normal while you're waiting for orders? Just wondering......
Butterbean1000 Posted April 22, 2020 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2020 Why would you social distance if you're not sick and tested negative? What's the point?
ray98 Posted April 22, 2020 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2020 The virus isn't magical. If there are no new hosts introduced and all current residents are out of the incubation period the no precautionary measures are needed.
ldubs Posted April 22, 2020 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2020 I would order pizza and open a keg or two! Seriously, I would not enforce social distancing in the circumstance you describe.
Aplmac Posted April 22, 2020 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2020 600 crew members would be going home (charter flights) leaving a skeleton crew of about 200 to run the thing and keep it afloat.Norwegian Spirit just did exactly this, here at Barbados.
CruisingAlong4Now Posted April 23, 2020 #6 Share Posted April 23, 2020 The tests are not 100% accurate. There are false negatives. Even twice. Sometimes symptoms are so mild that the tests don't react to them. Remember typhoid Mary was totally asymptomatic. I would err on the side of caution and assume that at least one person on board has the infection despite testing negative and not showing symptoms; I would take the appropriate precautions. Interesting. If testing is not reliable and you want to be certain not one person is infected, what would be appropriate precautions? Seems like a rock and a hard place, but I have been wrong before (many times - Lol). 😬
NantahalaCruiser Posted April 23, 2020 #8 Share Posted April 23, 2020 The Captain would not be awaiting orders. Home Office would already have dictated official corporate policy.
